What are you carrying right now?
In this first episode of Kate’s Carry-On: Mental Health & More, I’m sharing what I’m carrying at the moment. From bipolar and grief to caring responsibilities and perimenopause.
Some days it feels like I’m wearing every layer I’ve ever been through… all at once.
This is an honest, gentle conversation about the weight we carry, why it can feel so heavy, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going anyway.
Because even a slow crawl… still counts
This time, Kate unpacks The Weight of People-Pleasing, and why we sometimes go to extraordinary lengths to keep everybody else happy, even at our own expense.
From saying yes when we desperately want to say no, to fearing disappointment, rejection or conflict, she explores how easily we can lose sight of our own needs, opinions and choices. With a rather questionable teenage attempt at joining the Army thrown in for good measure!
Because you can be kind without being compliant. You can disappoint someone without being a disappointment. And you shouldn't have to abandon yourself to keep everybody else comfortable.

The Weight of Doing Too Much
This time, Kate unpacks The Weight of Doing Too Much, and why some of us feel responsible for absolutely everything. From being the dependable one and struggling to relinquish control, to the guilt that comes with asking for help or simply saying, “I can’t do that,” she explores what happens when our sense of worth becomes tangled up with how useful we are to other people.
Because being capable of carrying something doesn’t mean it’s yours to carry. You can put things down. The world won’t stop spinning. And your worth was never measured by how much you could hold.

The Weight of Love
This time, Kate unpacks The Weight of Love, and what it means to care for someone you love. She explores the worry, responsibility, practical demands and emotional weight that can come with caring, while remembering that the person we care for is never the burden. Sometimes the weight exists precisely because the love runs so deep. And while caring for someone else, we still need space to rest, recharge, laugh and live. Because carers matter too.
