பொதுநோக்கு என்பது இதுதானா? — “Is this what a public glance means?”
Why do lovers sometimes look at each other like complete strangers when they meet in a public place? Is love something we see with our eyes — or something we recognise without words?
In this episode of Ipadi Oru Theeya?!, Kavitha is joined by Tamil teacher and literature enthusiast Thiru. Sabarirajan to explore this subtle idea through Thirukkural 1099 and R. Balakrishnan’s poem “பொதுநோக்கு என்பது இதுதானா?”
Thirukkural 1099:
“ஏதிலார் போலப் பொதுநோக்கு நோக்குதல் காதலார் கண்ணே உள.”
The Kural captures a wonderfully familiar behaviour: lovers looking at each other in public as though they were strangers.
From Thiruvalluvar’s observation of love nearly two thousand years ago to relationships in today’s world, Kavitha and Thiru. Sabarirajan discuss the unspoken language of glances, secrecy, recognition and the psychology of love.

அசச்சுப்புட்டா கள்ளி! — What does true masculinity really mean?
Does a moustache make someone brave? Does a six-pack define masculinity? And can love soften even the toughest man?
In this episode of Ipadi Oru Theeya?!, Kavitha continues her conversation with Tamil scholar Thiru. Sabarirajan, using R. Balakrishnan’s poem “அசச்சுப்புட்டா கள்ளி!” as a starting point to explore love, courage, masculinity and humanity.
The discussion moves through classical Tamil literature and Thirukkural 1088, looking at the contrast between the warrior who can make enemies tremble and the same man who can become vulnerable before the woman he loves.
Through literary examples and cultural references, Kavitha and Thiru. Sabarirajan ask whether strength is really about physical power and aggression — or whether love, tenderness and emotional openness reveal another kind of courage.

பேசாமல் இறங்கி வா! — “Come down without saying a word!”
Kavitha continues her conversation with Tamil scholar Thiru. Sabarirajan in this episode of Ipadi Oru Theeya?!, exploring longing, separation and the anticipation of a lover’s return through Thirukkural 1264.
The Kural captures a striking emotional image: while waiting for the one who has gone away, the heart itself seems to climb higher and higher, searching for their return.
The conversation connects this classical idea with “பேசாமல் இறங்கி வா!”, the 40th poem in R. Balakrishnan IAS’s Ipadi Oru Theeya? collection, examining how love and longing continue to feel remarkably familiar across centuries.
Kavitha and Thiru. Sabarirajan reflect on waiting, memory, separation and the emotional restlessness that comes when someone we love is away.
