About Kayo the Penguin: Calm Audio Stories for Kids
Calm daytime adventures with real animal facts. Audio stories for children.
Kayo is a little penguin from an icy island at the bottom of the world. In every episode he sets off with Hugo the whale and meets an animal who teaches him something: an elephant in the jungle, a giraffe on the savanna, a koala in Australia.
Episodes run about 20 minutes and end with real animal facts. Right for the school run, a walk, or winding down.

Ep. 5: Kayo and Miko the Snow Monkey 🐒 A calm animal story for kids
A calm audio story for children. Kayo lands in Japan and meets Miko the snow monkey, among cherry trees, raked sand gardens and a steaming pool.
In Japan people bow to say hello. Kayo has no idea what bowing is, because penguins flap or shout. Then he finds a garden of white sand raked into neat wavy lines, and he puts one foot right in the middle of it.
Trying to fix it makes it much worse: crooked lines, broken sticks, footprints everywhere, sand in his feathers. Miko does not shout. He says the sand can be drawn again, and he fetches a second rake. Then the rain comes, Miko goes off through the branches, Kayo runs after him across wet stones, slips, and toboggans down the whole hill on his belly into a hot spring full of monkeys. Twenty furry hands take hold of him and start grooming him like a car wash. Terrifying. And warm. What stays with Kayo afterwards is that Miko never shouted, not about the garden, not about anything.

Ep. 4: Kayo and Kiki the Koala 🐨 A calm animal story for kids
A calm audio story for children. Kayo sails east to Australia, where the trees peel like paper and one small grey animal refuses to hurry.
In this forest the animals do not walk, they hop. High on a branch Kayo spots a small grey fluffy thing doing absolutely nothing. He shouts at it. It does not answer. So he decides to get up there himself.
He hugs the trunk and slides straight back down like a rubber duck in a bathtub. He takes a run-up, holds on for half a second, and lands with bark in his feathers and leaves on his head, looking like a small black and white bush. Then he builds a tower of five stones, climbs on, and the whole thing goes over, sending a dozen white cockatoos screeching out of the trees. In the end he sits down and waits, and Kiki comes down on her own, one slow paw at a time. Walking at her pace, Kayo starts seeing what he used to run past: orange and pink under the peeling bark, a green lizard that nods at him, and a kookaburra that lands beside him and laughs out loud.

Ep. 3: Kayo and Zuza the Giraffe 🦒 A calm animal story for kids
A calm audio story for children. Kayo lands on a baking savannah, mistakes four giraffe legs for tree trunks, and meets Zuza, who eats from the very top.
The sand is so hot that Kayo hops from one foot to the other, and his black tailcoat soaks up the sun like a sponge. He goes looking for shade and finds four thick trunks standing close together under a wide canopy. He leans back and closes his eyes. Then one of the trunks moves.
A lion roars somewhere out on the plain and the whole savannah starts running: zebras, buffalo in clouds of dust, antelope springing over the grass. Zuza bends her neck down, Kayo climbs up between her little horns, and then he shoots upward like a lift as she straightens and runs. At the watering hole the water is warm and tastes of mud, and a zebra asks the penguin in the tailcoat to bring everyone a drink, waiter. The zebras also decide the lion was not hunting at all. He probably just sneezed. Kayo goes home with one idea: everyone has their own just right.

Ep. 2: Kayo and Ed the Elephant 🐘 A calm animal story for kids
A calm audio story for children. Kayo steps off Hugo's back onto a hot beach and follows a narrow jungle path straight into a herd of elephants.
The sand is warm under Kayo's feet, which he has never felt before, and behind the palm trees stands a green wall of jungle. He finds a path so narrow that nothing big could possibly fit on it. Very logical reasoning. Also completely wrong, and the ground starts to shake.
A python is coiled above the path like a branch, waiting for the smallest calf, and Kayo shouts and flaps until the whole herd looks up. Seven elephants trumpet at once, leaves come down, and the python drops off the branch with a splat. Ed lifts Kayo onto his head with his trunk and takes him to a green lake under a waterfall, where Kayo dives for silver fish and Tadzik, the elephant at the back of the herd, finds this horrifying. Tadzik also tells a joke about elephants and cards that only Tadzik laughs at. By the end Kayo works out that elephants talk through the ground the way whales talk through the sea.

Ep. 1: Kayo and Hugo the Whale 🐋 A calm animal story for kids
A calm audio story for children. Kayo the little penguin swims past the horizon alone one morning and meets Hugo, a whale as big as an island.
Kayo lives on an icy island at the bottom of the world with Mum, Dad, Grandma Rosa and Grandpa Stefan. Every morning the penguins line up on the shore, watch the sun come up and jump in for fish. Kayo does not nap after breakfast. He stands and stares at the thin line where the sea meets the sky, and one morning he wakes before everyone and swims out to find out what is behind it.
The island shrinks to a white dot and then it is gone, and something grey and enormous rises from below. Kayo shouts hello. The whale ignores him completely, flicks its tail and spins him round like a leaf. Then Kayo paddles up to the hole on the whale's back, tilts his head to look inside, and gets fired into the sky on a column of water. That is how he meets Hugo, who shows him an iceberg shaped like a castle, fish that carry their own light, and the place where the water turns green and warm.
