Tired of podcasts that are too high level and don’t provide anything actionable to help you, the author, writer or creator? The SelfPubEmpire podcast is about writing, being an author, business, entrepreneurship, creators and marketing where I share my experience with self-publishing online. I discuss the business side and creative side of making money online. I am passionate about the creative process, business, social media and experimenting with marketing plans. The FTC just hit Publishing.com with a $1.5 million fine for misleading consumers about how much they could earn through self-publishing. This isn't just their problem. It's a wake-up call for every indie author and content creator.
In this bonus episode, I break down the entire case and what it means for you:
• What Publishing.com was selling and the income promises that got them in trouble• The three specific FTC violations: false earnings claims, deceptive refund guarantees, and fake testimonials• Why employees and family members writing undisclosed reviews is a serious legal issue• How the FTC's updated Endorsement Guides and Consumer Reviews Rule affect indie authors• A 5-step compliance checklist you can use to audit your own marketing today• Why this is actually good news for authors who are doing things the right way
No hype. No inflated promises. Just honest guidance on how to build a publishing business that lasts.
