“克莱登大学历史系”，其命名灵感来自于钱钟书的著名学术讽刺小说《围城》。这是一所并不存在的，坐落于美国的“野鸡大学”。不仅男主人公方鸿渐买了一个“克莱登大学”的假博士学历，三闾大学的历史系主任韩学愈也毕业于这所并不存在的大学。主播总是不免会遭到类似的质疑：为什么要到美国去学习历史，特别是中国史？遇此疑问，大多数情况下我也只好“哈哈”一笑，自嘲一番。 大部分海外的中国博士生确实会面临一个尴尬的境地，一方面在美国社会作为异乡人存在，一方面又与国内学术圈渐行渐远。让更多人知道美国的汉学研究、历史学在做什么，特别是博士研究生们在做什么，是本podcast创立的初心。再者，在美国的两年间，我遇到了许多对中国研究感兴趣的外国人。他们为何对中国感兴趣，具体对什么题目感兴趣？在他们眼中，历史中的中国和当下的中国是怎样的? 我意识到每个研究者都有自己的故事，而这个podcast就是给这些学术圈目前的“无名之辈”讲故事的平台。
