Remember those wonderful people I met in Toronto? We decided to have dinner at the CN Tower the next day. We had some time to kill, so we wandered into the gift shop. That’s when I realized I didn’t have my wallet. Of course, I fucking panicked. My wallet had my Panama immigration card in it, so my brain immediately went to “It was stolen. I’m screwed.”
My new friends didn’t just stand there and watch me panic. They helped me retrace my steps, and thankfully, my wallet was returned intact. Nothing missing. And honestly, the whole experience taught me something bigger than “don’t lose your fucking wallet.” It reminded me how important it is to have people around you who actually give a shit.
I’ve spent a lot of my life doing everything myself, figuring shit out myself, handling problems myself. But maybe independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone. Sometimes the real gift is having people beside you when things go sideways.

Trip to Toronto: Part 2 of 4
I went to Toronto to give a speech as part of the public speaking program I’ve been bitching about. And let me tell you, I was fucking disappointed. What was supposed to be an “event” turned out to be a recording session with no audience. Basically, something I could have done from my living room without flying to Toronto.
But then there were the people. I met some genuinely wonderful people through the experience, and that ended up being the part I valued most. And then something unexpected happened: I watched another speaker completely melt down, and instead of freaking me out, it gave me confidence. I realized, hey, if speakers can get nervous, stumble, lose their shit, and keep going, maybe I’m doing better than I think.
Sometimes the experience you paid for isn’t what you expected, but you still walk away with something you didn’t know you needed.

Trip to Toronto - Part 1 of 4
The first episode of my Toronto series starts with an adventure: I took public transportation to the airport, and honestly, it was fine. It was actually a great experience. So naturally, I decided to do the same thing when I got back. Lesson fucking learned. It took me almost five hours to get home from the airport, nearly as long as my flight from Toronto to Panama.
And because apparently that wasn’t enough, I ended up sitting in the same row as someone with a service dog. Out of the entire fucking plane. Seriously?
Sometimes you just have to laugh because what the fuck else are you going to do? This trip reminded me that adventures don't always go according to plan, some lessons are learned the hard way, and apparently God has one hell of a sense of humor.
