62: Frankenstein, Michael Jackson & Predator Badlands

John and the Legendary Wid kick off a Thanksgiving-flavored episode with Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant,” Abbott & Costello marathons, Jackie Gleason, Crazy Guggenheim, Bugs Bunny, Pete Puma and a very opinionated defense of the Three Stooges. From there they roll into Ed Sullivan, Marty Allen, Hollywood Squares, Philly soft pretzel jokes and a brand-new Michael Jackson biopic… which John uses as an excuse to tell multiple real-life Michael Jackson encounter stories, Liz Taylor at her heaviest, and some brutally dark MJ punchlines. Then it’s a full-on Frankenstein nerd-out: James Whale classics, Bride of Frankenstein, censored drowning scenes, King Kong racism, De Niro’s disastrous monster, Japanese kaiju Frankensteins, TV movies, The Bride, Van Helsing and why the original still rules. John gives Jim a Native American Barbie for Thanksgiving, makes an “Indian giver” pun, and closes by reviewing the new Predator: Badlands — a “woke environmentalist predator” with family drama, an unkillable dragon monster, multiple decapitations and a Borscht Belt punchline about meeting his mother.#kensilculture, #popculturetrainrek, #comedytrainrek, #johnkensil, #frankenstein, #michaeljackson, #predator, #thanksgiving, #classicmovies #thelegendarywid #johnkensil 00:00 – Cold Open, Theme & Welcome Back to Kensil Culture01:04 – Thanksgiving Nostalgia: Alice’s Restaurant, Abbott & Costello & Jackie Gleason Marathons02:27 – Crazy Guggenheim, Punch-Drunk Characters, Pete Puma & Three Stooges vs. Bugs Bunny04:15 – Ed Sullivan’s Weird Variety Show, Marty Allen & the Philly Soft Pretzel Joke07:03 – New Michael Jackson Biopic & John’s Real-Life Michael Jackson Encounters10:28 – Shopping Bag Jokes, MJ’s “Fake” Voice, Mom’s “Gay Pills” Theory & Jim the Taskmaster12:34 – Frankenstein Deep Dive: Universal Classics, Censored Drowning Scene & King Kong Racism18:16 – Native American Barbie Gift, “Indian Giver” Wordplay & More Frankenstein Lore22:20 – Frankenstein Remakes, TV Movies, Japanese Kaiju Versions, The Bride & Van Helsing Rant26:32 – New Predator: Badlands Review, Unkillable Monster, Family Drama & Decapitation Count30:27 – Frankenstein Paved the Way, Turtleneck Nuts Joke & Show Sign-Off

61: British Teeth Bargains & Halloween Chaos

Welcome back to Kensil Culture, the only pop-culture podcast where suit jackets are mandatory and irony is the dress code. In Episode 61, John Kensil and The Legendary Wid dive straight into British TV oddities, questionable cuisine, outrageous Halloween shows, Dolly Parton stories, Rosie O’Donnell chaos, George Jones riding a lawnmower drunk, and the global squirrel invasion. Yes — somehow all of that makes perfect sense here. From Planet of the Apes nostalgia to banned pre-Hays Code Tarzan nudity, to monkeys invading Spirit Halloween, this episode swings from topic to topic with the grace of an orangutan named Clyde. Stay till the end for stories about comedians, collectibles, old Hollywood, and the kind of deep-cut trivia only Wid could pull out of a dumpster.#kensilculture #comedytrainrek #johnkensil #thelegendarywid #phillycomedy #popculture #britishhumor #halloweenstories #planetofthapes #dumpsterdiving
