Kevin's First Time

About Kevin's First Time

Kevin's First Time is a film podcast where four friends explore iconic movies. Kevin, who missed out on many classics growing up, experiences them for the first time, while the others rewatch to see if they still hold up. Together, they share laughs and insights into why Kevin missed the movie and what makes it memorable. It’s a fresh take on film, friendship, and first impressions. Artwork done by Libba Heptner. Intro/Outro Song by Udio, lyrics by our own Ryan Heptner. Editing: Ryan Roberts

   ‘Jojo Rabbit’

A young boy. An imaginary Adolf Hitler. A coming-of-age story unlike any other. This week, the guys introduce Kevin to Jojo Rabbit, where a lonely German boy’s imaginary best friend is Hitler—until he discovers a Jewish girl hiding in his home. Will Kevin connect with Taika Waititi’s bold blend of satire and heart, or will the premise be too bizarre to overcome? Starring Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, and Taika Waititi.

‘May It Last: A portrait of the Avett Brothers’

Two brothers. A band. A season of change. This week, the guys watch May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers, directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. The documentary follows Scott and Seth Avett as they navigate recording with producer Rick Rubin, touring, marriage, fatherhood, and the tension between creativity and real life. Starring Scott Avett, Seth Avett, Bob Crawford, and Rick Rubin, this intimate portrait offers a behind-the-scenes look at the cost — and beauty — of building something that lasts. A different kind of episode.

   ‘Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story’

A failing gym. A villain with frosted tips. A dodgeball tournament on ESPN 8: The Ocho. Just another day in 2004. The guys throw Kevin into DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, where Average Joe’s faces off against Globo Gym in the most unnecessary athletic competition ever filmed. Will Kevin embrace the underdog chaos, or will he be overwhelmed by wrench-throwing wisdom and Ben Stiller’s aggressively committed performance? Starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, and Rip Torn — plus a cameo that makes absolutely no sense but somehow works. If you can dodge a ball… you can survive this episode.
