Glen V C Kirby's Fantasy journal, where he will read and review fantasy fiction novels, whilst also writing and reading his own flash fiction inspired from his reads.
Glen V C Kirby reviews Virgil's Aeneid as part of his 52 Books in a Year challenge. Was it imperial propaganda commissioned by Augustus Caesar, or quiet subversion from a poet who asked for the whole thing to be burned? He explores Aeneas as a hero too dutiful to love, Dido as the most devastating character in ancient literature, and what it means when storytelling becomes the foundation of an empire. Four stars.

Ep 5 - The Odyssey Review
Glen V C Kirby reviews Homer’s Odyssey as part of his 52 Books in a Year challenge. He explores what makes Odysseus one of literature’s greatest characters — brilliant, contradictory, and his own worst enemy. From the monsters that tempt him to stop, to Penelope’s quiet defiance, to the bittersweet reality of finally getting home and finding it fits differently. A personal, honest review that gives the Odyssey a deserved five stars.

Ep 3 - The Iliad Review
The Iliad is not the whole Trojan War. No Wooden Horse. No fall of Troy. Just fifty days, one quarrel, and the greatest warrior alive deciding to stop fighting — not out of fear, but wounded pride. Homer tells you exactly what this poem is about in the very first line. Rage. And then he spends twenty-four books proving he meant it. Three thousand years old. Never felt more relevant.

Ep 1 - The Epic of Gilgamesh Review
The Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest fantasy story ever written? A king loses the person he loves most and cannot accept his own mortality. What follows is a 4,000-year-old exploration of ego, grief, and how to live knowing you will die. Shockingly modern. Brutally honest. And still asking questions none of us have fully answered. ★★★★☆
