Hello, and welcome to Kompas Points. I'm Chris Hansen and this is my series of short talks based on topics in and around the agriculture world. Whether that be farming, animal ag, how certain markets are being affected by the pandemic, regenerative farming, or anything in between these talks are not meant to be lectures. They are meant to be short, sweet and to the point explanations of topics in a way that is easily understood. The idea behind them is to educate people of all backgrounds based on the information I have found in my own research and my own experiences. I hope you enjoy!
As Easter is just a couple days away we figured now was as good a time as any to draw an unlikely connection: Easter and Agriculture.
.
A lot of you may be sitting there saying, “Chris? How in the world are these two related? One is a Christian holiday and the other has to do with farming?” Well in the next 3 minutes or so we wanted to draw some connections and explain how they’re related, and how traditions and the traditional animal production cycle came to be part of our popular traditions.
.
We hope you enjoy, maybe learn a little something new, and tune in next time for our next Kompas Point.

Ep. 13 Texas Winter Storm Repercussions
After the devastating effects of the winter storm on much of the U.S. over the past week, we’ve all heard about it on the news. However, have you given any thought about how this storm could affect our food supply, and our agricultural system?
.
In this Kompas Point we dive a little deeper into what this storm means for the immediate and near future, specifically looking through the lens of a Texas farmer. Texas is a leader in many areas of agriculture for the United States and with these storms affecting their power sources, their crops, their livestock, and their water sources, they have been one of the industries and states that has been impacted the most.
.
Still have questions about how the recent winter storms that have swept the country could affect the food supply everywhere? Send us a message, or email us at kompasconsultingllc@gmail.com and we will get back to you!

Ep. 12 Food Production
I got busy during the last few months of 2020, but wanted to make sure we started 2021 with a brand new Kompas Point, so here we go!
We haven’t heard much about the food production industry as much as we did last Spring, however with the holidays we did hear murmurs of it, specifically regarding turkey supply. During the holidays I got a few questions via text or while on calls, about why farmers were still having a hard time, so that’s going to be the focus of today’s video.
I hope you enjoy this newest episode, and if you've got the time, be sure to watch the video version on Facebook and LinkedIn!

Ep. 11 Flu Vaccine
And we’re back with Kompas Point #11! With flu season fast approaching, this week I wanted to dive a little deeper into what the flu vaccine is, how it helps, and what the agriculture scene has to do with it.
.
Again these videos are never meant to be long lengthy lectures, and this is a complex topic, so if you are left with any questions after the video is over, please don’t hesitate to reach out, for I would be happy to elaborate further.

Ep. 10 National Farm Safety & Health Week
National Farm Safety and Health Week this year is being observed this coming week, September 20th-26th, and "EVERY FARMER COUNTS" is the mentality.
-
To pay tribute to the upcoming week that is dedicated to raising awareness for the health and safety of farmers and their workers, I dove a little deeper into the world of farming, and explained what exactly makes this one of the most dangerous jobs in the U.S..
-
Between the machinery, long hours, and now COVID-19, farmers don't have it easy by any stretch. Through my 10th video of this Kompas Points series, I hope I can shed some light on how dangerous this job can be, as well as how you and your families and friends can help make it a less dangerous job.
-
Still have questions? Shoot me a message here and I'll get back to you, or check out National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (https://www.facebook.com/necasag/?__tn__=kK-R) for more information!

Ep. 9 Iowa Derecho
Kompas Point #9 is here and this one hits a little closer to home for me...literally.
Nearly 20 days after a horrifying #derecho (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/derecho?__eep__=6&__tn__=*NK-R) struck the Midwest I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to explain how the affects of the storm will affect Iowa, and the U.S., in the coming months, as well as mention a few ways how you may be able to help the farmers and agriculture professionals in my home state.

Ep. 8 GMO vs. Genetic Selection
Happy Friday everyone, and thank you for tuning in to the newest segment of my Kompas Points series.
This week's Point is all about genetic selection, genetic modification, and new technologies that are emerging, such as #CRISPR (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/crispr?__eep__=6&__tn__=*NK-R) , that will allow agriculture to continue to grow in new directions.

Ep. 7 Meat Alternatives
Kompas Point #7 is LIVE!
In the next couple minutes I go more into detail about meat alternatives and what their explosion over the past few years means for the future of the agriculture industry. Let me know what you think, and as always, if you have any questions, please leave me a comment or send me a message.

Ep. 6 Different Types of Farming
While discussing animal and crop production with anyone I tend to use 3 terms to describe the kind of production: Conventional, Organic and Regenerative. Today I dive a little deeper into each of these, what they mean, how they help the agriculture industry, and a few other matters. These are important to understand simply because every sort of animal and crop production in the U.S. isn't done the same and that's important to understand. As always, any questions shoot me a message and I'll get back to you with some more info! Enjoy!

Ep. 5 The Future of Food
Today we're talking a little bit about the history of farming and how far it's come, how different kinds of farms will contribute to the industry in the future and how the efficiency of farmers has changed to produce our nations food supply. I also take a minute to explain a little bit more about what Kompas can do to help merge the new technology with the old ways of farming in order to respect the past, but look to the future. The goal for everyone is to maximize the benefit for everyone involved. As always, any questions, just ask!

Ep. 4 The Meat Industry During the Pandemic
Like we talked about the dairy industry last time, this episode we dive a little deeper into the meat industry and the challenges they are facing. Once again I'm talking a little bit about the mindset of a beef farmer at this time, the process, why there seem to be shortages, as well as how people like yourself can help keep beef farmers in business. Butchers, beef farmers, and big plans oh my! I hope you enjoy, and as always if there are any questions shoot me a message on Facebook!

Ep. 3 The Dairy Industry During the CO-VID19 Pandemic
Why are farmers dumping milk? Why are we completely out of dairy products on our grocery store shelves? Just why! This week I'm diving a little deeper into some explanations and answers of why we're seeing what we are seeing on the news. From explaining the process of how milk becomes these products on the shelves, to walking through the thought process of a dairy farmer at this time, we're going to get to it all. This episode was originally a video, so about halfway through the episode I do begin gesturing at a white board for a visual aid, so if you want to go check that out on my Facebook page it should make a lot more sense! Hope you enjoy!

Ep. 2 Eggs During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Welcome back to Kompas Points! This week I'm diving in a little deeper into the perception of a shortage of eggs during the pandemic, the different vocabulary that is associated with eggs, and a few other things to try and make some sense of what's happening. Still have questions after you listen? Feel free to reach out on social media, or to me directly via email (kompasconsultingllc@gmail.com) and I'd be happy to elaborate further.
