Koon Rijjeil Ep 36: How I learned To Thank The People Who Hurt Me
To Everyone Who Ever Hurt Me, Thank You.
This year’s World Mental Health Day episode is a little different. After what has been a difficult year, Karim sits down to reflect on the experiences that hurt him, the moments that made him question his self-worth, and the lessons he’s still learning about himself.Because sometimes the experiences we wish never happened end up teaching us things we might never have understood otherwise.
From living with ADHD and experiencing depression (again) to navigating relationships, expectations, self-doubt and learning to set boundaries, this episode is an honest reflection on what it means to look back at difficult moments without pretending they weren’t difficult.
Karim also explores the pressure men can feel to always be confident, have the answers and keep pushing forward, even when they’re hurting. This isn’t about celebrating pain, excusing the people who caused it, or pretending everything happens for an obvious reason. It’s about recognising what we can take from our experiences, learning to trust what life has in store for us, and deciding what kind of men we want to become.
In this episode, we discuss:
Why Karim wants to thank the experiences that hurt him
How difficult moments can change our relationship with self-worth
The pressure on men to always appear confident
ADHD, depression and learning more about yourself
Setting boundaries without losing your ability to care
Why managing expectations can protect your mental health
Accepting that effort doesn’t guarantee an outcome
Trusting God’s plan when life takes an unexpected direction
Finding meaning in difficult experiences without denying the pain
Why being a good human being still mattersMental health deserves more than one day on the calendar.

Koon Rijjeil Ep 35: Let Them
What if the thing you’re trying so hard to fix doesn’t actually need fixing?
One of the biggest lessons Karim has learned this year can be summed up in two words: let them.
Not in the sense of letting people disrespect you, giving up when things get difficult, or stopping fighting for the things you want. But in learning to recognise the difference between working hard for something and exhausting yourself trying to force something that may simply not be right for you.
In this episode of Koon Rijjeil, Karim reflects on our tendency to keep searching for answers, signs and closure even when, deep down, we might already know what a situation is telling us.Because when we really want something to work, hope can make us incredibly good at finding reasons to keep trying.
One more conversation. One more chance. A little more time. A little more effort. But at some point, the question might need to change from “How badly do I want this?” to “What is this costing me?”
This episode is about trusting what you already know, understanding that nobody necessarily needs to be wrong for something to no longer be right for you, and learning when to stop trying to change what is already showing you exactly what it is.In this episode, we discuss:
What “let them” actually means
The difference between working hard and forcing something to work
Why we keep searching for closure even when we already have answers
How hope can sometimes make us ignore what is in front of us
Knowing when to keep trying and when to step away
Why self-respect means trusting the information you already have
Why someone doesn’t need to be a bad person for something to be wrong for you
Asking what something is costing you, not only how badly you want it
Accepting that not everything needs to be fixed

Koon Rijjeil Ep 34: Why I Don't Want To Be The Nice Guy Anymore
What happens when being the nice guy starts costing you more than you realise?
For most of my life, Karim has tried to say the right thing, keep people happy, and avoid letting people down. But recently, he’s started questioning whether being nice and being good are actually the same thing.
In this episode of Koon Rijjeil, Karim reflects on his own relationship with people-pleasing, the decisions he’s made for other people instead of himself, and why becoming a good man can sometimes mean doing things that don’t feel very nice.Because when you’re used to keeping everyone happy, choosing yourself can feel selfish.
Saying what you really think can feel wrong. And disappointing someone can make you question whether you’re doing the right thing at all.
This episode is about learning the difference between being liked and being honest. About making decisions that actually reflect your values. And about accepting that sometimes, doing what you believe is right might disappoint someone else.
In this episode, we discuss:
• The difference between being a nice guy and a good man
• Why people-pleasing can become a difficult cycle to break
• Putting yourself first without becoming selfish
• Why doing the right thing can sometimes feel wrong
• The fear of disappointing the people around you
• Making decisions based on your own values and beliefs
• Why honesty isn’t always about saying what people want to hear• Letting go of an older version of yourself
