Our audiences have chances to listen to live interviews, call-in to offer their perspectives, and listen to pre-recorded conversations with feminists around the world.
Jovelyn’s Bistro Welcome’s Jane Loeb Rubin, Writer to share her lastest work.
“Jane Loeb Rubin transports us to the Catskill Mountains in 1924 in her riveting and action-packed new novel, Mayhem in the Mountains. As the story opens, Prohibition fuels crime and the Ku Klux Klan has drifted north, threatening those they consider outsiders. Against this turbulent backdrop, Rubin follows three characters struggling with family bonds and sweeping change. Whether you’re a fan of Rubin’s earlier novels or new to her stories, you’ll race through Mayhem in the Mountains, cheering for her characters to overcome all obstacles.”

Rape Culture, Consent, And Male entitlement w Janelle White, Kate Manne and Soraya Chemaly
Recently the alleged gang rape of the Cornell student “Jane Doe” and the handling of it by Cornell, the campus police and the local District Attorney has made headlines in mainstream media. But this event is not unique or unusual. So how do we understand the alleged gang rape of the Cornell student “Jane Doe” as an example of the larger problem of violence against women and femicide and its relationship to larger structures of white male supremacy? What is the larger harm caused by violence against women and the misogyny that underlies it to all women? And how has the limited liberal legal analysis which focuses on consent and the liberal perspective of sex positivity of some feminists both failed to address the underlining power dynamics inherent in rape and violence against women?
These are some of the questions we will address today on KPFA Radio’s Women’s Magazine at 1-2 PM on Monday October 12th when we will be joined by three activist scholars who have been working to fight violence against women for decades. Soraya Chemaly is the author of the best-selling book “Rage Becomes Her: The Power of Women’s Anger,” and “All We Want Is Everything: How We Dismantle Male Supremacy.” Kate Manne is Professor of Philosophy at the Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University, where she primarily focuses on moral, feminist, and social philosophy and is the author of the 2020 book “Entitled: How Male Privilege Hurts Women. ” And Dr Janelle White has served as the executive director of San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) for over 20 years and has taught at SF State’s Women and Gender studies on the prison industrial complex and history of African American women since 2006.
