Emily takes us behind the scenes of what it actually looks like to turn an idea into a real beauty product — finding a cosmetic chemist, testing formulas, investing in inventory, figuring out packaging + manufacturing, getting other artists to trust something completely new, dealing with restocks and all the very unglamorous things that happen behind the scenes of a product company.
We also talk about balancing Golden Hour with V Cool, the biggest lessons she’s learned as a founder, the moments that made her realize “holy shit… this is actually working,” and what she wants V Cool to become next.

This week on After Hours, I’m sitting down with Emily, the woman behind EMK Spray Tan, to talk about what it really looked like to walk away from the career she thought she was “supposed” to have and bet on herself instead.
Emily takes us back to the beginning of EMK — spraying clients before and after work from her basement (aka “the dungeon”), realizing her side hustle was becoming something much bigger, eventually leaving healthcare, and going from a home-based business to opening a storefront while continuing to operate both locations.
