מלחמת אין ברירה - הרב שמואל אריאל
עיון קל בספר חשמונאים חושף כי נס חנוכה לא הגיע ביוזמה נועזת של מתתיהו ובניו. לאחר בריחות רבות ורדיפות בלתי פוסקות של אנטיוכוס והמתיוונים - רק אז, עם הגב אל הקיר - מתחיל המרד של החשמונאים ובסופו התוצאה לה לא פיללו - מדינה ריבונית וטיהור המקדש. גם המלחמה בה אנו נמצאים היא לא מלחמה שיזמנו ונראה שלא היינו יוזמים אותה בקרוב. ואולי יש כאן הזמנה להתבונן על מצבים של אין ברירה ומה הם עשויים לזמן לנו - תחושת חוסר האונים מאפשרת מכה עוצמתית יותר על אויבינו, ומאפשרת לנו למצוא הסכמות בתוכנו, להקשיח עמדות יחד. אולי דווקא בגלל גודל החושך נצליח להפיק ממנו אור גדול.

אנחנו כבר רגילים לכך שההיסטוריה קשורה באופן אקטואלי, אך נדמה שהמלחמה בתוכה אנחנו נמצאים מאירה באופן עמוק יותר את הקשר ההיסטורי בין הנסים שעשה לאבותינו בימים ההם ובין הזמן הזה. יהודה המכבי במספר תפילות ומילות עידוד שמוסר ללוחמיו אומר להם שוב ושוב - אנחנו את ההשתדלות שלנו נעשה, אבל הכח והניצחון - מאת ה'. יהודה מזכיר ללוחמיו שהמלחמה היא נגד אויב גאה ופושע שמבקש להרוג אותנו ואת נשינו וטפנו - ונדמה שהמילים האלה נכתבו בדיוק לזמננו - אקטואלי מתמיד. עוד מוסר יהודה ללוחמיו - מסירות הנפש היא בשם הערך של תקומת ישראל, של קיום הקודש והרוח, וטוב למות בעד ערכים גבוהים כאלו. נדמה שחנוכה בכל שנה מאיר לנו משהו, אך השנה - האור הפנימי של החג רלוונטי מתמיד להאיר לנו דרך ואמונה בתוך אפילת המלחמה
