14. Die Friedliche Revolution und der Fall der Berliner Mauer
Was im Herbst 1989 in der damaligen DDR passierte, war ein einzigartiges Ereignis der Weltgeschichte: Ein Volk begehrte auf und stürzte ein illiberales System, ohne Gewalt. Was die friedliche Revolution möglich machte, war ein neuer Kurs, der gerade in der Sowjetunion in vollem Gang war: Gorbatschow hatte nämlich einen Reformprozess (Perestroika) eingeleitet, der neue Wege zur politischen bzw. wirtschaftlichen Freiheit ebnete. Am 9. November 1989 fiel die Berliner Mauer und die Deutschen feierten den Anfang einer neuen Phase der deutschen Geschichte, die in knapp elf Monaten zur Wiedervereinigung führen sollte.

14. La rivoluzione pacifica e la caduta del muro di Berlino
Quello che successe nell’autunno 1989 nella DDR fu un avvenimento unico nella storia mondiale: la ribellione di un popolo che riuscì a rovesciare un sistema illiberale senza far ricorso alla violenza. Una rivoluzione pacifica, resa possibile dal nuovo corso in atto nell’Unione Sovietica: Gorbaciov aveva infatti avviato un processo di trasformazione (Perestroika) che lasciava intravedere nuovi orizzonti di libertà, politica ed economica. Il muro cadde il 9 novembre e la gente festeggiò l’inizio di un nuovo periodo che avrebbe portato nel giro di poco meno di un anno alla riunificazione.

13. RAF-Terror und Deutscher Herbst
Die RAF, Rote Armee Fraktion, war eine terroristische Organisation, die in der Zeit zwischen 1970 und 1998 in der Bundesrepublik agierte und die demokratische Grundordnung bekämpfte, um eine antiimperialistische, kommunistische Gesellschaft zu errichten. Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin und Ulrike Meinhof waren die Urheber einer Reihe von Terrorakten, die in der Entführung und Hinrichtung von Hanns-Martin Schleyer, dem Vorsitzenden des deutschen Arbeitgeberverbandes, gipfelte. Der kollektive Selbstmord der RAF-Gründer in dem Hochsicherheitsgefängnis Stuttgart-Stammheim beendete die erste Phase des bewaffneten Kampfes.
