This week on Lagos Meets London, 🇳🇬🇬🇧we sit down with award-winning British-Nigerian filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr., fresh off his BAFTA win for the powerful Nigerian film “ My Father’s Shadow “Born in London and raised between London and Lagos, Akin shares how growing up between two worlds shaped his identity, his creativity, and the stories he chooses to tell. In this episode, he reflects on family, heritage, and the unique perspective of being both a Londoner and a Lagosian experiences that continue to influence his work as a storyteller.
Together with his brother Wole, Akinola has dedicated himself to bringing authentic Nigerian stories to the screen.
He also speaks about his parents’ journey as economic migrants and how their sacrifices and values inspired his creative path.
We dive deep into My Father’s Shadow, the BAFTA-winning film that serves as a moving ode to the Nigerian father often absent, often misunderstood, yet constantly working behind the scenes to provide for his family.
The film explores themes of sacrifice, love, and generational understanding within the Nigerian experience.
