Rangers Football Report: 28–7 over East Ridge & Mounds View “Trap Game” Preview
Noah Casa and Joel Geist break down Forest Lake’s 28–7 win over East Ridge—highlighting a first-half defensive stand (blocked field goal + inadvertent-whistle confusion, retake missed wide) and a unit that didn’t allow points until the fourth.
They spotlight key performances and numbers: Connor Johnson (4/6, 41 yds, TD, first INT of the year), Micah dialing up a 41-yard WR pass TD to D.J. Westman (3 rec, 63 yds, TD), Rayfield securing a goal-line TD, and Mac Jurkovich’s “sneaky” 22 for 160 on the ground as the Rangers rushed 43 for 221 to East Ridge’s 31 for 116.
Big-picture context: Forest Lake’s identity is clear—~233 rushing yards per game, only ~77 allowed on the ground, 6A leaders in sacks (16) and TFLs (57), and only two rushing TDs allowed this season. That’s the recipe: win the trenches, flip field position, then strike with explosive plays.
Looking ahead, the guys preview Mounds View: why last year’s meeting at their place is a caution flag (pre-snap penalties, tackling), how to squeeze QB Beckham Wheeler (58.2%, 7 TD / 5 INT) into mistakes, and the plan to out-physical their front and limit RB Caden Tran. Expect tight keys, an over/under around 45, and scorelines in the two-score range if the Rangers play clean. Bank or bust.
