October Update

This conversation offers us a powerful reminder that God's timing and provision are always at work, even in seasons of transition. We see a beautiful example of faithful leadership as a church community navigates the search for an interim pastor. The emphasis on prayer, discernment, and seeking God's will throughout this process reflects the biblical principle found in Psalm 105:4 - 'Look to the Lord and his strength. Seek his face always.' This verse serves as an anchor, reminding us that in every season of change or uncertainty, our primary response should be to draw closer to God and depend on His strength rather than our own understanding. The testimony shared about how God calls people in unexpected ways - from architecture to pastoral ministry - illustrates how the Lord pursues us and redirects our paths according to His purposes. We're challenged to remain open to God's leading in our own lives, trusting that He places the right people in the right places at the right times. As we face our own transitions and decisions, we can take comfort in knowing that seeking God's face continually positions us to recognize His hand at work and follow where He leads.

Trust in God's Timing

Genesis 16 presents us with a powerful cautionary tale about the dangers of trying to fulfill God's promises in our own timing and through our own methods. When Sarah and Abraham faced the painful reality of childlessness, they chose a culturally acceptable workaround rather than waiting on God's perfect plan. Sarah's suggestion that Abraham sleep with her slave Hagar seemed practical and legal by the standards of their day, but it violated God's created order for marriage and family. The consequences of this decision ripple through history even to our present day, as the conflict between Isaac's and Ishmael's descendants continues in the Middle East. This story reminds us that while God's grace and forgiveness are always available when we confess and repent, the consequences of our choices to step outside His will can be long-lasting and far-reaching. We learn that cultural acceptance never justifies going against God's moral law, and that true faith requires us to trust His timing even when circumstances seem impossible. The question we must constantly ask ourselves is whether we're seeking God's way or looking for convenien

Real Faith

We can confidently face our uncertainties by anchoring our faith in God’s promises, just as Abram did, knowing that he is faithful to fulfill what he has promised.

Genesis 15 invites us into a profound exploration of what it truly means to have faith. We discover that real faith is not merely intellectual assent to facts—not just believing that one plus one equals two and moving on with our lives. Instead, it's a complete, wholehearted trust in God's promises even when we see no evidence of their fulfillment. Abraham's story reveals that justification comes through faith alone, not through our works or attempts to earn righteousness. This is the beautiful paradox of the gospel: God doesn't just forgive our sins, He declares us righteous by imputing Christ's righteousness to us. It's not about moving from bad to neutral, but from guilty to righteous. The passage challenges us to examine whether we're trying to earn God's favor through our own efforts, or whether we're truly resting in the finished work of Christ. Real faith asks honest questions without doubt, seeks God's face in confusion, and ultimately recognizes that we are not the center of our own story—we are participants in God's grand narrative that spans centuries. When the world asks 'Where is your God?' in the midst of tragedy and suffering, this passage provides our answer: God is sovereign, playing the long game, and His goodness is not determined by our immediate circumstances but by His eternal character and purposes.
