About Lasting Change with Jesus: Going Deeper for Greater Impact
We exist to give Jesus what He has always longed for: a people who don’t just know about Him, but who know His voice, still speaking. A people who don’t just know who they are in Him, but who live from their identity in Him as fully adopted and fully loved children of God.
Each week we demonstrate how to build transformative conversations that brings Jesus into the conversation.
When the Problem Isn’t Motivation: How to Coach the Belief Beneath the Behaviour
Kara has time, energy and plenty of ideas for what she could do in her next season of life.
She wants to lead groups. Connect with people. Fill her calendar with things that matter to her.
So why isn’t she doing it?
Kara comes into this live Encounter Coaching session wanting a practical outcome: a plan and a schedule.
Mathew could have stayed there.
Set some goals. Create accountability. Decide what goes on the calendar.
Instead, he follows the heart beneath the behaviour.
Using the Encounter Coaching process of Drilling Down to Belief, Mathew begins exploring what Kara’s lack of action may be revealing about what she believes at a much deeper level.
Eventually, an identity-level belief begins to surface.
It is something Kara hadn’t recognised as the blockage underneath the behaviour — and simply encouraging her to try harder would never have reached it.
That opens the door to an Identity Update: bringing the belief directly to Jesus and allowing Him to address it where it actually lives.
What was Kara believing about herself?
How was that belief keeping her from moving forward?
And what changes when Jesus meets the belief rather than simply helping her manage the behaviour it produces?
For coaches, pastors, counsellors and Christian helpers, this session is a practical demonstration of one of the central differences in Encounter Coaching:
lasting action can begin much deeper than action itself.
Stay for Todd and Mathew’s debrief on why reassurance and advice can sometimes leave the real issue untouched, how to recognise when a presenting problem may be pointing to identity, and why the coach’s role is to create space for Jesus rather than rush in to fix the person.

Why Are So Many Christian Men Exhausted? | Todd Olsen’s Story
Todd Olsen had spent 30 years building a successful career at Ford Motor Company.
He was a senior corporate leader, travelled internationally, earned well and was repeatedly recognised as a top performer. Jason & Todd
Then, at 53, he stepped away.
Why?
How do you leave a career that is going well when there is no obvious crisis forcing you out?
How do you know whether the restlessness you feel is something to push through — or an invitation into a completely different season?
And what gives you enough confidence to actually act on it?
In this episode, Jason Wells interviews Todd about the journey from corporate executive to professional coach and eventually MetaFormation.
They talk about achievement, manhood, the pressure to make an impact, and the questions Todd began asking when success no longer answered everything.
Todd also shares how he discovered coaching, why it affected him so deeply, and what happened when he began working with people carrying problems far more difficult than he felt equipped to handle. Jason & Todd
For Christian men, coaches, pastors and leaders who have ever wondered “Is this all I’m meant to do?” or “What does my next season look like?”, this is a very different kind of career-change story.
Listen to find out what gave Todd the confidence to make the shift — and where it eventually led him.

How Much Is Up to Me and How Much Is Up to Jesus?
How Much Is Up to Me and How Much Is Up to Jesus?
When do you take action, and when do you trust Jesus to take the lead?
After hitting rock bottom 10 years ago, he rebuilt, found his purpose in coaching and eventually began helping other people navigate their own major life disruptions.
Now he’s facing a very different kind of challenge.
Nothing is falling apart. But after 10 years of coaching, Marco feels like he has reached a ceiling. He senses there is something more ahead, but he doesn’t know how much he should be doing to make it happen.
Do I push forward?
Do I wait?
What is my responsibility — and what belongs to Jesus?
In this live Encounter Coaching session, Todd helps Marco take that question out of his head and bring it directly into conversation with Jesus.
And the conversation doesn’t go where Marco expects.
For coaches, pastors and Christian helpers, this episode is also an opportunity to hear how Todd coaches someone asking for direction without stepping in and becoming the source of that direction himself.

How Do You Help Someone Who Feels Like They’re Failing Their Calling?
How do you help someone when the problem they bring you is practical… but the weight they’re carrying is much deeper?
Josh has been a missionary in Taiwan for 11 years.
He loves the people he serves. But speaking the local language still intimidates him, and the fear has begun affecting conversations he avoids, follow-ups he puts off and how he sees himself as a minister.
Underneath it are questions many of the people we help carry quietly:
Why am I still struggling with this?
Shouldn’t I be better by now?
What does this say about me?
Am I failing at what God called me to do?
As a coach, pastor or counselor, it would be easy to respond with encouragement, practical advice or another reminder that God is with him.
But would that actually reach the part of Josh that feels ashamed, defeated and under pressure to perform?
In this live Encounter Coaching session, you’ll get to watch Mathew help Josh move through that inner conflict and encounter Jesus personally in it.
And what Jesus says changes the way Josh sees not only his language struggle, but his ministry, his calling and the pressure he has been carrying for years.
Watch to see how Mathew helps someone move from a practical problem into the deeper place their heart actually needs Jesus — and what happens when Jesus meets them there.

Is It Wrong to Charge Money as a Christian Coach?
Is it wrong to charge for your services as a Christian coach?
Ken knows his coaching helps people. He feels drawn to the work. But when someone asks what he charges, something inside him hesitates.
After a lifetime in church and ministry, one idea is hard to shake:
Freely you’ve received, freely give.
So is charging for coaching simply valuing your work — or does it somehow turn something sacred into a transaction?
In this live Encounter Coaching session, Mathew helps Ken move beneath the pricing question and discover what his heart is really asking.
Rather than giving him a business answer, they bring that deeper need directly to Jesus.
For coaches, pastors, counselors, mentors and Christian helpers who have wrestled with money, ministry, calling and the value of their work, this conversation may feel familiar.

When God Slams the Door: Is It Rejection or Invitation?
You prayed. You felt God leading you. You stepped out in faith. Then the door closed.
Does that mean you heard Him wrong?
Or could something deeper be happening?
In this episode of Lasting Change with Jesus, Todd and Mathew unpack a coaching case involving someone whose ministry plans suddenly hit a major obstacle.
The natural reaction is to solve the problem.
But Encounter Coaching starts somewhere else: what is this situation revealing in the heart?
Todd and Mathew explore how fear, anxiety and disappointment can expose beliefs that do not match what we consciously say we believe about God — and why simply giving someone another verse or telling them to pray harder may never reach that deeper place.
From there, they explore what it looks like to bring Jesus directly into the conversation.
Why does “Jesus, what should I do?” sometimes lead nowhere, while “Jesus, how do You see me in this?” can open an entirely different conversation?
What if someone hears nothing?
And how can we test what we hear against Scripture without closing ourselves off from personal encounter with Jesus?
For coaches, counselors, pastors, mentors and Christian leaders, this episode offers a practical look at how the Encounter Coaching framework moves beyond tactical problem-solving and helps people experience Jesus in the middle of what they are actually carrying.

I'm 36 and I just had a heart attack. What now, Jesus?
We know the verses: take every thought captive, guard your heart, renew your mind. But is it possible to even do that when you just had a heart attack?
In Episode 1 of Lasting Change with Jesus, 36-year-old Mathew sits down with Todd wanting one thing: Jesus’ perspective on what he has just lived through.
Mathew knows Scripture, but he realizes he has been filling in the blanks for Jesus rather than actually asking Him.
In this real Encounter Coaching session, Todd helps him move from the presenting problem into what is happening underneath it: first clarifying what Mathew wants, then exploring his heart, inviting Jesus directly into the conversation, noticing what Jesus reveals and helping Mathew respond.
They move through fear, loss, freedom, identity, worth and purpose — including a three-legged race with Jesus and an unexpected invitation from Jesus.
For coaches, counselors, pastors, mentors and Christian leaders, it’s a real-time look at what can happen when you stop carrying the pressure to be the answer and create space for someone to engage personally with Jesus instead.

Trailer: Lasting Change with Jesus
Lasting Change With Jesus is a weekly podcast for coaches, therapists, pastors, executives, and leaders who want to help people experience change that lasts.
Hosted by Todd Olsen and Mathew Swinson of Metaformation, the show explores Encounter Coaching: an approach that goes beyond teaching people about Jesus and helps them engage with Him directly in the places where fear, shame, false beliefs, and recurring patterns are holding them back.
Some episodes take you inside real coaching sessions. Others break down the method, the questions being asked, and what is happening beneath the surface.
The first episode begins with Mathew himself.
Nine days before recording, he suffered a heart attack while playing basketball, flatlined, and was brought back. Todd coaches him through what happened, what it changed, and what Jesus might be inviting him to see differently.
Lasting Change With Jesus launches 30 September 2026, with new episodes every week. Subscribe so you don’t miss an episode.
