Late to Church is a limited summer podcast for anyone who’s ever felt like faith was out of reach, like you missed the memo, or showed up too late to ask the big questions. Hosted by Dr. Kira Moolman Pettit of The Church of St. John the Divine in Houston, Texas, each episode offers thoughtful, accessible conversations about God, theology, and the Christian life without the jargon or judgment. For the first season, Kira is joined by the Rev. Sutton Lowe.

What is “the fall,” and why does it matter today?
In this episode, we unpack Genesis 3, exploring how sin is more than just bad behavior—it’s a breakdown in trust with God that shapes our lives and the world around us. We also talk about shame, broken relationships, and the hope found in Jesus, who restores what we cannot fix on our own.

2: Creation
“In the beginning, God created…” But what does that really mean for your everyday life?
In this episode of Late to Church, Dr. Kira Moolman Pettit and The Rev. Sutton Lowe dig into the theology of creation— not just as a moment in the distant past, but as a truth with profound meaning for how we live, love, age, and die. From Genesis to John, they trace how God's act of creating, inhabiting, and redeeming the material world reshapes how we think about our bodies, the earth, and our neighbors.
They talk cookies, resurrection, funerals, and even heresies—all in service of one deeply hopeful idea: that God not only made the world, but called it good and still walks with us in it.
