The 4Rs Lateral Love podcast is a three-part series hosted by Roland Jones that was created to unpack the stigma around lateral violence and the struggles that exist within Indigenous communities when it comes to moving away from intergenerational trauma, toward lateral love. Throughout this series, we will share stories of navigating mental health within our contexts as young organizers and the negative impacts we experience facing lateral violence in our communities. We hope to shine a light on new ways of relating to one another, while being honest about our trauma responses and emotional burnout, and imagining something different for our futures. We hope that through acts of healing and lateral love, like mycelium, networks of young people can help to repair and strengthen our community & family support systems.

Holistic Healing
The first episode of the Lateral Love podcast series features the fierce and always fashionable, Carrington Christmas. Carrington is an aunty, storyteller, traditional singer, and public speaker and is passionate about empowering Indigenous youth and Indigenizing learning spaces. In this episode, Roland & Carrington will be exploring topics of healing and what holistic healing looks like to our communities. They will dive into traditional methods of healing, ceremony, and often what happens in our communities: gatekeeping. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Carrington is a Black-Scotian-Mi’kmaw and German Two-Spirit person living in Dish with One Spoon Territory. She began her academic career in Political Science and Indigenous Studies but found strength, community, and knowledge outside of academia. Carrington has over 9 years of experience in developing and delivering projects for communities at the grassroots, provincial, national, and international levels. Through her 6 years of work in training and education, Carrington is grounded in teachings of great love and great kindness. She believes that laughter is medicine and relationships built on reciprocity and mutual respect will lead to radical change. The logo we are using for this project is an original illustration by Métis-Japanese-Canadian artist Mia Ohki called “Mycelial Network.” You can find her work on Instagram @miaohki and on her website https://www.miaohki.com/
