012 | Am I Doing Enough? Parenting With Curiosity, Connection, and Faith with Fabiola
Highlights
As parents, we spend so much energy trying to make thoughtful choices for our children, often searching for guarantees. In this unique episode, co-host Fabiola steps into the guest seat to share the story that shaped her approach to faith, family, and learning. Fabiola discusses how true connection comes from pausing to be curious, embracing both the light and the struggles of parenting, and trusting that God will magnify our sincere, everyday offerings.
Key Takeaways:
Play as Connection: Cultivating a home centered on learning through unstructured play and shared experiences builds a foundation for lasting family relationships.
The Power of the Pause: When faced with challenging behaviors, responding with curiosity and attending to the underlying emotion—rather than reacting immediately to the behavior—helps defuse the situation and fosters deeper connection with your child.
Embracing the Shadows: We often want to protect our children from difficulty, but allowing them to struggle and wrestle with challenges is a crucial part of their spiritual and personal development.
Magnifying Our Offerings: When feelings of inadequacy arise, remember that comparison is a trap. God accepts our sincere efforts—whether in teaching, loving, or guiding—and He will magnify whatever we are willing to place at His feet.

Week 7: SMART Goals — Turning Dreams Into a Plan
Theme: Habits & Executive FunctionExecutive Function Skill: Planning, Goal Setting & Future ThinkingI Can Statement: I can create a SMART goal that helps me take small, achievable steps toward something important to me.
🎧 In This Episode
Does your child have plenty of things they want to accomplish—but struggle to figure out how to actually get there?
This week, we're talking about SMART goals and the executive-function skills behind them.
A goal like "I want better grades," or "I want to be more organized" sounds great, but it's difficult to act on because it doesn't tell the brain what to do next.
SMART goals help children turn a broad dream into a clear, manageable plan.
In this episode, we'll talk about how parents can help their kids:
Turn a dream into a specific goal
Break big goals into smaller steps
Think about how today's choices affect their future
Create a simple "goal ladder"
Reflect on what's working and adjust when a plan doesn't work
Most importantly, we'll talk about why struggling to follow through doesn't always mean a child isn't motivated. Sometimes they simply need help turning an intention into a plan.
🧠 The Executive Function Connection
SMART goal setting strengthens three important executive-function skills:
Planning — Breaking a larger goal into clear, manageable steps.
Goal Setting — Creating goals that are realistic, measurable, and motivating.
Future Thinking — Connecting the choices we make today with the person or outcome we're working toward tomorrow.
Your child's goal doesn't have to be perfect. The goal is to help them practice thinking ahead, taking action, noticing what works, and adjusting when necessary.
⭐ SMART Means:
S — SpecificWhat exactly will I do?
M — MeasurableHow will I know I've made progress?
A — AchievableIs this realistic for me right now?
R — RelevantWhy does this matter to me?
T — Time-BoundWhen will I do it or finish it?
🪜 Try This at Home: Build a Goal Ladder
Choose one small goal with your child and ask:
What's the first step?
Then:
What comes next?
Keep going until you have a simple path from where they are now to where they want to go.
For example:
Goal: Read for 20 minutes every night this week.
Steps:
Choose a book.
Put it somewhere easy to find.
Set a reminder.
Read after dinner.
Mark your progress.
The goal is to make the invisible steps visible.
💬 Questions to Ask Instead of Giving Instructions
Try replacing some reminders with questions that help your child think through the plan:
"What's the first step?"
"What needs to happen before that?"
"How will you know you've made progress?"
"Is this goal realistic for this week?"
"What's getting in the way?"
"What could you change?"
"What's your next step?"
These questions help shift some of the thinking from parent-managed to child-managed.
🎯 Your Tiny Parent Challenge
This week, choose one small goal with your child.
Help them make it SMART, then ask:
"What's the very first step?"
Let your child come up with the answer whenever possible.
You don't have to create the perfect plan. You're giving your child a chance to practice creating one.
❤️ One Thing to Remember
A child who struggles to follow through isn't necessarily lazy or unmotivated.
Sometimes they simply haven't learned how to turn an intention into a plan.
Executive-function skills develop through practice.
So this week, don't worry about climbing the whole mountain.
Help your child see the next step.
Small steps, repeated consistently, can turn a dream into a plan—and a plan into progress.

Internal Peace & Divine Identity Part 2
Highlights
As parents, we spend so much energy trying to make thoughtful choices for our children, often searching for guarantees. In this episode, Fabiola discusses how true emotional and spiritual peace doesn't come from eliminating uncertainty or knowing every outcome, but from learning how to carry it and taking the next faithful step.
Key Takeaways:
Wisdom vs. Guarantees: You can have enough information to make a wise decision without having a guarantee of the outcome.
Radical Acceptance: Meeting reality as it is—rather than fighting what should be—reduces internal suffering and anxiety.
Influence vs. Control: Learn to distinguish what is yours to influence (home environment, teaching, boundaries) from what belongs entirely to your children (their choices, timing, and personal growth).
Next Faithful Step: Shifting from "How do I know this will work?" to "Do I have enough information to take the next faithful step?"
