[…] But our hope is the third son, Jesus Christ, whose perfect obedience is stronger than all of our refusals. He's the reason that Ezekiel can tell the sinner that there's still life ahead of him. Christ has gone to the Father into obedience, and he's taken that obedience and gone into our sin. He carried our disobedience to the cross. And so the road back to the Father now runs through Christ. That road is called repentance. And repentance is more than feeling sorry. That's the point I'm trying to get across today. The first son may have felt terribly sorry about what he said to his father, but if he just remains sitting exactly where he was and never did anything about it, then the story never changes. […]
