Your Rights After a Cancer Diagnosis | Layman's Special Episode

The rest of the Layman's Law School podcast crew is on summer vacation, so this week host & attorney Chace is bringing in some special summer school credit with his wife, Whitney O'Connor, in the guest chair. Whitney is the "Boobie Queen" herself: a two-time breast cancer survivor, licensed professional counselor, and founder of The Boobie Queen Co.

Whitney shares her story: diagnosed with stage 3 HER2+ breast cancer six weeks into her marriage, a rare genetic condition called Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, a second diagnosis two years later, and how she turned her experience into a nonprofit supporting young survivors through BreastRest® Retreats and the iconic Boobie Crowns®.

Then Chace breaks down the legal side of a cancer diagnosis — the laws that protect your job, your income, your health insurance, and your family while you fight. From employment protections and medical leave to insurance appeals and estate planning, this episode is a practical guide for anyone navigating cancer (or supporting someone who is).

Video Chapters:

00:00 🎙️ Introduction and personal story of cancer survivorship

05:40 💖 The "Booby Queen" mission and movement

08:13 ⚖️ Legal rights: Job security and FMLA protections

18:08 🏥 Navigating health insurance and disability

35:12 🚫 Addressing workplace discrimination and returns

49:49 💸 Handling insurance denials and the appeals process

01:04:25 📝 End-of-life planning and essential legal documents

01:16:24 🧾 Managing medical bills and financial protection

01:20:49 👕 Conclusion and resources for survivorship

Learn more about The Boobie Queen Co.:

⚠️ This video is for general educational purposes only and is not legal advice. Personal Injury 101: When Road Rage Takes the Wheel

A 72-year-old Georgia man honked at cyclists for two solid minutes, struck two of them with his SUV, fled the scene, hid at a neighbor's house, and then smirked in his mugshot. Today on Layman's Law School, we break down the case of State v. Jerry Wayne Ross — and use it as a masterclass in what NOT to do after a car accident.

We cover the criminal charges Jerry Wayne is facing (aggravated assault, hit and run, reckless driving, and more), why fleeing the scene is almost always the worst decision you can make, and the civil side of things — including the surprising reason why even the victims' attorneys may not want this labeled as intentional.

Plus: why you should never say "I'm fine" at an accident scene, the real difference between your settlement number and what you actually walk away with, and why Georgia's $25,000 minimum insurance limits are a ticking time bomb.

🛒 Check out the Layman's Law School merch shop: LaymansMerch.com

Use code YOUTUBE for 10% off!

This podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.
