A Sampler of Poetry Reading

We had our summer live reading last week, and thought it might be fun to try our hand at live recording. Did we succeed? Well, you're listening to live poetry right now, aren't you? Cause if you're not, that means you're just reading an episode description. There's no fun in that. We don't even write it like dudes with ad copy training. We're just telling you that on this podcast, you'll hear Sara Matson, Bridget Gordon, and Julián Martinez reading poetry. Heck, you'll even hear Chris Corlew reading poetry, and Brendan Johnson playing guitar. What a treat! And there's still a reading from Studs Terkel! Find more of us at lazy and entitled dot org — blogs, music, our novels, it's all there Sara Matson (she/her) is a poet in Chicago. Her poems can be found in Bone Bouquet, Impossible Task, Ghost City Press and crumpled in recycling bins from Berlin to Waukegan. Sara hosts the seasonal online reading series Words // Friends and her latest chapbook, (Women) In STEM is available from Bottlecap Press. Find her on Instagram @skeletorsmom Bridget Gordon (she/her, fae/faer) is a queer trans woman and emerging poet living in Chicago. A former MFA student and sports journalist, her current work with poetry and short-form writing is enraptured with queer longing, identity, and liminality. She has past or forthcoming publications in Moist Poetry Journal, TRANS MAG, Pink Poetry Club, Coin-Operated Press, and Red Rock Review. Fae is the author of the self-published chapbook, the rest is up to you, love, released in Summer 2026. Fae lives with her husband, metamour, cats, a blue electric guitar named Evie, and an ominously large TBR pile. Julián Martínez is the son of Mexican and Cuban immigrants and is from Waukegan, IL. His work has appeared in HAD, hex literary, Little Engines, Rejection Letters and elsewhere. His debut collection of short fictions and a novella will be released in Spring 2027 by Future Tense Books. Find him online @martinezfjulian or IRL in Chicago.
