About LCIL International Law Seminar Series

The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law is the scholarly home of International law at the University of Cambridge. The Centre, founded by Sir Elihu Lauterpacht QC in 1983, serves as a forum for the discussion and development of international law and is one of the specialist law centres of the Faculty of Law. How does an international tribunal deal with the immunity of a, I'll just use head of state to summarize, immunity of a head of state that is not a party to the statute and not bound by the instrument that has created that court and which gives that court its powers and which also is the basis on which the state's parties to the court are acting. So that's the critical question in mind. So how does an international tribunal and in particular the ICC deal with leaders of non-parties? Now this question of state immunity arises at two different but related levels. […]
