Especially the things we wish we knew when we were struggling to lead teams in the past. We’re not here to preach, just to pass on what’s helped us and hopefully spark a few ideas along the way.
Jaime Henry: Rebuilding Confidence After the Setbacks
Jamie Henry is the 2026 Dhara Kerr Medallist, awarded to the WAFL Women’s best and fairest player for the season. After moving to Melbourne to play VFL with the Western Bulldogs, Jamie was dropped without warning heading into finals. She returned to Swan Districts in 2025 with a different focus, determined to prioritise her mental and physical health and rebuild her confidence.
After two narrow WAFL Grand Final losses, Jamie committed to a consistent off-season routine and started focusing on the things she could control. Her 2026 season followed, with improvements in her fitness, leadership and belief in herself.
Jamie talks openly about the mindset shift that helped her get there, including removing pressure, journaling, building consistency and learning to back herself again. She also shares what it’s like navigating draft years, injury setbacks, disability support work and training as a West Coast Eagles train-on partner while continuing to chase her goal of being drafted into the AFLW.

Simona Di Filippo: Chasing Your Sporting Dreams
What happens when you decide to back yourself and chase a sporting goal without knowing exactly how it will work out?
Simona made the move from Victoria to Perth to join the West Coast Warriors in the WA Netball League after years of playing VNL and country netball around Ballarat. Despite wanting to push herself further, she had struggled to break into Victorian state pathways leading to her relocating to chase her dream.
We chat about the doubts that came with making the decision, leaving a job she loved, finding somewhere to live, dealing with homesickness and having the confidence to tell people what she wanted to achieve. Simona also shares what it takes to balance full-time work with training, games, gym sessions and recovery, along with the role consistency and coach trust have played in her development.
After winning the Jill McIntosh Medal as the WA Netball League’s best and fairest, Simona is continuing to chase the next opportunity while navigating an uncertain future.

New Hires: When The Honeymoon Ends
Hiring someone new can feel like you've finally found the person you've been looking for.
But sometimes leaders can get caught up in the excitement and start putting a new hire on a pedestal before they've really had a chance to understand them. At the same time the new employee is trying to prove they were worth hiring, bringing plenty of energy, ideas and enthusiasm. Eventually though the honeymoon ends and reality kicks in.
In this episode we look at the expectations leaders place on new hires, why we can expect them to fix problems that have existed for years. We also look at it from the new hire's perspective and why learning, listening and building relationships should come before trying to change everything.
