Episode 223: Are You Making Recognition Meaningful?
Have you ever attended a recognition ceremony and wondered what the person was actually being recognized for?
Meaningful recognition should leave people feeling appreciated while clearly communicating the difference they made. In this episode, Gary shares three elements of effective recognition:
1. Specificity — Clearly identify what the person accomplished and recognize them in a way that feels meaningful to them.
2. Significance — Explain how their work affected the team or organization.
3. Standards — Connect their achievement to organizational values, expectations, or leadership goals.
Recognition is most powerful when everyone understands what was accomplished, why it mattered, and what others can learn from it.
Challenge: Think about the next person you plan to recognize. How will you make their contribution specific, significant, and connected to your organization's standards?

222 - Can Your Team Execute the Mission?
Welcome back to Great Transitions Strategies:
Building a capable team requires more than filling vacancies. You need the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles.
In this episode, Gary explores three areas that strengthen team performance:
1. Selection — Hire for non-negotiable skills and organizational fit.
2. Promotion — Treat advancement like an internal hire, ensuring each person is prepared for the new role.
3. Development — Build individual plans around leadership, technical, and business skills.
When these three processes work together, your team is better prepared to execute and succeed.
Challenge: If you had to interview for your current role today, would you meet its non-negotiable requirements?
