The Leeds Heroin Ring Uncovered | Leeds News
A Leeds drug kingpin, Yakub Miah, was sentenced to 14 years after smuggling 20kg of heroin into the city during the first COVID lockdown — a crime that spanned months and involved multiple arrests, including his extradition from Ireland. His accomplice Ali Hussain got seven years and five months, while a third suspect, Shafiqul Islam Ali, remains at large — with police urgently seeking public help to capture him. The operation, led by Detective Inspector Chris Rukin, dismantled a major organized crime network fueling addiction and violence across the region.

Life Sentence for Grudge-Driven Murder | Leeds News
An 18-year-old asylum seeker, Sulaiman Tajzai, has been sentenced to life in prison for brutally stabbing shop worker Farmanullah Sherzad ten times—motivated by a twisted grudge rooted in a false belief that Sherzad had harassed a woman tied to Tajzai’s family. Despite Tajzai’s traumatic past—including his father’s alleged Taliban abduction—the court found no justification for the savage attack. Sherzad’s family remembered him as kind, hardworking, and devoted to cricket, heartbroken by his senseless murder. Earlier this year, Sherzad had been briefly detained after being found at Tajzai’s cousin’s home with his wrists tied, a situation he claimed was consensual; police later dropped charges. Tajzai had stalked his victim, armed himself with a kitchen knife, and traveled by train to London before being caught. He faces a minimum of 25 years before parole eligibility.
