[…] Well, Anacrium is one of the most important and greatest archaic Greek lyric poets. He comes from Theos. He was born at some point in 570s, passed away at some point in 490s BC. He spent most of his youth in Theos. He lived there until Cyrus the Great conquered the area. So the traditional date used to be 547, 6 BC. Now we are moving towards 530. From that point onwards, he becomes one of these itinerant poets who moves from place to place. And first he maybe went to Thrace and then he ended up like many other, you know, superstar poets at the courts of various people. So he first went to Samos, to the court of Polycrates, where he stayed until the assassination or the murder of Polycrates. […]
