Part II of the Canon of Scripture:
Marcion of Sinope - 144 AD ROME
He compiled the Christian Bible and butchered it so he was kicked out of church
11 books was Marcions Bible the 1st Christian canon ever compiled.
So this forced the Church Fathers to create the Canon correctly: what scriptures had the church always received
Not by voting
Apostolic origin
Universal acceptance
Doctrinal consistently (agreed with what the church had always taught)
Liturgical use (was the book read in the Sunday Eucharist)
These 4 criteria are not found in the Bible
Athanasius wrote in a letter and listed the 27 books in the New Testament.
393 AD a formal council synod of Hippo was held and confirmed the 27 books; this was Canon 36
397 AD: Council of Carthage reaffirms the same 27 books
419 AD: Carthage met again and finalized the Canon
"In AD 419, the Council of Carthage reaffirmed the canon previously recognized at Hippo (393) and Carthage (397), helping establish the standard biblical canon in the Western Church."
The list of books is not listed in the Bible; the Church recognized and preserved the books
The Orthodox Church has preserved the same canon, the same liturgy, the same faith for 2000 years unbroken.
