Grief, Faith, and Questioning God: What the Bible Really Says
Why It’s Okay to Question God: What the Bible Says About Grief and Faith Episode Description / Show Notes: In this vulnerable episode of Let's Talk About Why, I’m stepping away from our scheduled conversation to share something deeply personal. After experiencing several major losses over the past two years, I’ve found myself wrestling with deep grief and big questions. Today, we’re talking about why questioning God in seasons of grief is not a sign of weak faith, but an invitation into deeper relationship. Together, we’ll look at Scripture and see how Job, David, and even Jesus asked hard, honest questions, and how God met them with compassion, not condemnation. If you’re grieving, struggling, or sitting in a season of unanswered prayers, I pray this episode reminds you: You are not alone. Your faith is not weak. And God is closer than you think, ven when the questions feel bigger than the answers. Scriptures referenced: Job 3:11; Job 19:7 Psalm 13:1–2 Matthew 27:46 Psalm 34:18 . . . . . . What the Bible Says About Immigrants and Refugees—and Why It Matters
In this solo episode, Tara takes a compassionate and honest look at what the Bible says about immigrants, refugees, and the Church’s response. Without diving into policy or politics, this conversation focuses on people and the heart of Christ toward the vulnerable and displaced. You’ll walk away with a fresh perspective, a challenge to align your heart with Scripture, and a renewed understanding of what it means to love your neighbor in a culture of division. This is a call to see like Jesus sees, to love like He loves, and to live a gospel that welcomes the stranger. 🔑 In This Episode, We Explore: Why Jesus being a refugee matters for how we see displaced people A rapid-fire look at biblical stories of immigrants, exiles, and outsiders The Samaritan as a model for gospel-centered compassion How Christian nationalism distorts biblical love Encouragement for those who want to do something but don’t know where to start 📖 Scripture References: Matthew 2:13–15 (Jesus as a refugee) Deuteronomy 10:19 (love for the foreigner) Luke 10:25–37 (The Good Samaritan) Hebrews 13:2 (hospitality to strangers) . . . . . . The Role of Structure in a Spirit-Led Prayer Life with Dr. David Taylor
In this episode Tara talks with Dr. David Taylor about his book Prayers for the Pilgrimage. They discuss why prayer is important and how liturgical prayer practices can be a resource for Pentecostals and Evangelicals in their prayer lives as well. They question the idea that structure takes away from passion and relationship and dive into the heart of prayer as a spiritual discipline. W. David O. Taylor is Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary and the author of several books, including Prayers for the Pilgrimage (IVP, 2024), A Body of Praise (Baker Academic, 2023), Open and Unafraid (Thomas Nelson/HarperCollins, 2020), Glimpses of the New Creation (Eerdmans, 2019), and The Theater of God’s Glory (Eerdmans, 2017); he is also editor of The Art of New Creation (IVP Academic, 2022), Contemporary Art and the Church (IVP Academic, 2017), and For the Beauty of the Church (Baker Books, 2010). In addition to a range of popular essays, Taylor has published articles in the Calvin Theological Journal, Christian Scholars Review, Worship, Theology Today, and Image Journal, among others. He serves on the advisory board for Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts as well as IVP Academic’s series, “Studies in Theology and the Arts,” and is a core participant in the multi-year scholarly project, “Theology and the Visual Arts,” hosted by King’s College, London. An ordained Anglican priest, he has lectured widely on the arts, from Thailand to South Africa. In 2016 he produced a short film on the psalms with Bono and Eugene Peterson. He lives east of Austin, Texas, on 21 acres with his children and artist wife, Phaedra, with whom he has produced a variety of art and prayer resources. . . . . . . . Rethinking Missions and Justice with Mekdes Haddis
In this episode Tara Zimmer sits down with Mekdes Haddis to talk about living a life of Justiceand how the American Church can expand our mindset when it comes to missions involvement. Mekdes Haddis is a sought-after Millennial African Missional thought leader whose voice ischallenging the Church to undo its “missions as usual” ethos. Her work is a clarion call to redefine missions from charity giving to disciple making and justice seeking. In 2020 Mekdes created an online community “Just Missions” with the purpose of helpingmissionaries, receivers of missionaries and ministry leaders engage with one another on an open platform and discuss the harmful effects of western missions. The group birthed her book A Just Mission: Laying Down Power and Embracing Mutuality. Italso gave westerners the chance to hear from the receivers of missions without the financial power dynamic that typically robs them from openly discussing the truth. Her hope is that these conversations will lead to a wholesome method of supporting and equipping local churches and their leaders without the focus being on the one who is sent but rather the ones God wants them to reach. In 2024 she launched "The Mutuality Lab" a restorative and sustainable way to beon mission. . . . . . . . Thank you to our partners: Aloha!
