[…] The idea was to basically provide lectures on geology and to help curate this collection that he'd left to the university. Now in 1818, that position, the Woodwardian Professor of Geology, that passed to Adam Sedgwick, who is another sort of major figure that we need to talk about. And Sedgwick significantly expanded this museum collection. Now when I say significantly, I mean significantly. So Woodward had about 10,000 specimens. Sedgwick expanded that to about half a million specimens. So that is a very significant development. That's going to require a lot bigger building to hold all that stuff. […]
