Moby Dick: The Whale is a Fish
Our story continues in Chapter 32 titled Cetology. Here we learn more about our narrator Ishmael's sense of humor and his need to share his world of whaling by thus focusing on the categorization and classification of whales. We learn about how this is considered a snapshot into the 1850s, a time of much interest in science and growing knowledge. We also discuss a few whales that were listed under the common name, but modern day has discovered their true names. What a fun little reprieve in our journey! Next time, we continue our journey in whaling! 📚 Join the Conversation! I love hearing your thoughts, theories, and book recommendations. Mark Twain's A Ghost Story
This may be the friendliest ghost story you have ever heard! Mark Twain's A Ghost Story also known as A Ghost's Tale is one of my husband's favorite stories from when he was a child. It tells the tale of a weary traveler who is haunted by a ghost with a minor case of mistaken identity. Filled with fun for the whole family! Also, learn about the true tale of the Cardiff Giant! One of the most famous hoax's in history. The backstory is almost as fun a story as Twain's! 📚 Join the Conversation! I love hearing your thoughts, theories, and book recommendations. A Terrible Attempt at a Bit O' Brogue & An Island's Survival at Sea
Our journey continues with Moby Dick! Chapters 17-24 I thought it would be fun to attempt the Nantucket accent/dialect. Apparently, I sounded like Kevin Costner in Robin Hood... Epic fail... Learn a little about the Ocracoke Brogue which is the closest existing dialect in the United States today to what Nantucketers sounded like. Let's explore Nantucket's tenacity and drive to survive at sea from being a failed farming community to the whaling capitol of the world to being abandoned and reviving as a vacation destination. Nantucket has contributed more to history than whaling. Learn about how Nantucket influenced women's rights, the abolitionist movement, astronomy, and more! Reminder! Only the song is AI! ....I can't afford to pay a musician yet, so I had to improvise. The talking and everything is all me! Have questions? Comments? I want to hear from you! The Book Everyone Says You Should Read, But Few Have - Herman Melville's Moby Dick
Hello there! Don't forget to hit Like, Follow, or comment! Welcome to Let's Get Foxy! In this episode, you are going to meet myself, your host, Lacey! You will learn that we are going to have games and different prizes available because we are going to turn my misfortune into something fun that we all can enjoy! You will also learn that I love questions! So please feel free to drop them! This episode contains an overview for future episodes because there is so much to unpack with this particular piece of literature. If I missed anything that you think should be brought up, let me know! This episode contains readings of Chapters 1-3. Why no Etymology and Extracts? Take a listen to find out! (Also, drop a request because for you dear listener, I am willing to read them.) We end our chat with a light analysis of chapters 1-3 and discuss some words that are commonly used throughout this book. Please let me know if there are any other terms you would be interested in exploring as there are quite a few within this book that are archaic or the pronunciations have changed. I actually tried to keep most of my pronunciations true to the time to enhance the experience for you, but there are a few modern pronunciations that I have kept. Stay tuned for more! I Swear, the Name Isn't DUMB!
Welcome to our mini episode describing the inspiration behind the name! Please hit Like, Follow, or Comment! We would love to hear from you! Let's Get Foxy! isn't named for what you think, and it demonstrates this host's love for books! I actually chanced upon a literary term many years ago, which ended up inspiring the name! Listen to the story detailing my teenaged escapade in the attempt to save a book I loved and was convinced was doomed! Also, can you guess the book? Or would you like to know which novel I was determined to try and rescue? I know, sources for talking about a podcast name inspiration? I just like to cross my "t's" and dot my "i's." I want this to be a trustworthy podcast that you can enjoy without a worry.
