Who Should Run Broward’s 911?
Who should answer when Broward residents call 911? That’s one of the bigger questions I’m following in this local catch-up. I’m Uncle Marv, and between running an IT business here and keeping up with life around Greater Fort Lauderdale, I want to know what these decisions actually mean for the people who call this place home. We’ll talk voting, emergency dispatch, and an HOA dispute where pickleball, business contracts, and neighborhood politics collide. There’s also a more personal stop at Jack’s, a burger favorite I found when I moved to Pompano in 1992, plus a Deerfield pizza shop taking a stand against AI. And because October deserves its turn before Christmas decorations take over, I’ve got a couple of Davie fall outings and a downtown Halloween event worth knowing about. === Chapters 00:12 Welcome Back, Lauderdale 01:16 Amendment 3 and Broward Voting 04:44 Who Should Run Broward’s 911? 07:46 West Boca Pickleball and HOA Lawsuit 11:12 Jack’s Burgers Eyes Miami 12:44 Munchys Pizza Says No to AI 15:41 Caviar Club Comes to Las Olas 18:01 Christmas Already? From Miami to Victoria Park: Dr. Ann Monis’ South Florida Story
Dr. Ann Monis is the founder and CEO of Transformative Healthcare Solutions, a Fort Lauderdale-headquartered behavioral-health company providing talk therapy and corporate mental-health support across Florida. A Miami native who chose Victoria Park when she was ready to put down roots, Dr. Ann shares why Fort Lauderdale felt like the right balance of energy, community, charm, and a little less Miami traffic. We get honest about the tough side of mental-health care: high deductibles, Medicaid waitlists, insurance session caps, and the fact that healing does not happen on a predictable 12-session schedule. Dr. Ann also talks about building the Florida Mental Health Coalition to help bridge that gap, bootstrapping her business, and why the changing look of Victoria Park brings both excitement and mixed feelings. === Chapters 00:10 Dr. Ann Monis Joins Let’s Talk Lauderdale 02:07 Transformative Healthcare Solutions and Talk Therapy 03:33 Workplace Culture, Wellness, and Business Realities 05:23 Healthcare Staffing and Florida’s Changing Workforce 07:11 The Florida Mental Health Coalition and Access to Care 09:44 From Law School to Forensic Psychology 11:08 The Pro Bono Case That Shaped Her Mission 14:57 Why Victoria Park Became Home 16:17 Las Olas Favorites and Fort Lauderdale Lifestyle 17:16 Building the Dr. Ann Brand and What Comes Next 19:42 Bootstrapping a Business as a Woman Entrepreneur 21:05 A Book Trilogy and the Next Chapter === Guest: Dr. Ann Monis, Transformative Healthcare Solutions, Founder and CEO Website: https://ths.health/ (https://ths.health/) Website: https://www.drann.com/ (https://www.drann.com/) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ann-monis-mba-psyd-43196b24 (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ann-monis-mba-psyd-43196b24) === Local Businesses / Nonprofits / Events / Attactions Florida Mental Health Coalition: https://www.floridamhc.org/ (https://www.floridamhc.org/) ChildNet: https://www.childnet.us/ (https://www.childnet.us/) Ocean Prime Fort Lauderdale: https://ocean-prime.com/locations-menus/fort-lauderdale/ (https://ocean-prime.com/locations-menus/fort-lauderdale/) Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Fort Lauderdale: https://www.eddiev.com/locations/fl/fort-lauderdale/fort-lauderdale-fl/8528 (https://www.eddiev.com/locations/fl/fort-lauderdale/fort-lauderdale-fl/8528) Timpano Las Olas: https://www.timpanolasolas.com/ (https://www.timpanolasolas.com/) Annie Beck Park: https://www.parks.fortlauderdale.gov/Home/Components/FacilityDirectory/FacilityDirectory/139/1091 (https://www.parks.fortlauderdale.gov/Home/Components/FacilityDirectory/FacilityDirectory/139/1091) Faena Hotel Miami Beach: https://www.faena.com/miami-beach (https://www.faena.com/miami-beach) === MUSIC LICENSE CERTIFICATE Title: Happy Epic And Confident Corporate Background Piece To Suit Health Or Dynamic Item ID: 195889930 Publisher: Saowakhon Brown Composer: Saowakhon Brown License: Individual License, Commercial Stock Media provided by TheSaoLady / Pond5 Website: https://www.letstalklauderdale.com/ (https://www.letstalklauderdale.com/) Let’s Talk Lauderdale is hosted by Marvin Bee & Jen Stewart. Publix BOGO, Brightline Safety, and Big City Tavern’s Last Call
I’m back with a packed Greater Fort Lauderdale update, and there is a lot going on from the grocery aisle to the railroad crossings. I dig into the Publix BOGO rule that has Florida shoppers asking why they have to buy two items when customers in other states can often get one for half off. It turns out it is not a Florida law. It is Publix policy, and that little detail matters when everybody is watching the grocery bill. I also talk about AutoNation’s Drive Pink milestone, Brightline and BSO’s push for safer rail crossings in Pompano Beach, and the bigger-than-expected enrollment decline in Broward County Public Schools. Plus, there is restaurant news from East Las Olas, including the pending closure of Big City Tavern after 25 years, Yardbird’s Chapter 11 filing, a few good eats from my work travels, and easy local ideas for getting out this fall. === Chapters 00:11 Welcome and South Florida Headlines 00:38 Publix BOGO Frustration in Florida 02:08 AutoNation’s Drive Pink Milestone 03:10 Brightline Rail Safety and Broward School Enrollment 05:43 Work Travel Update and Restaurant Stops 06:43 Turning Point Breakfast in Viera 09:03 Chicago Dining: Gibsons and Shoeless Joe’s 10:58 Big City Tavern Closing and Yardbird Chapter 11 13:30 Fall Events Around Fort Lauderdale 16:45 Fern Forest Nature Center and Easy Local Escapes === News Stories Publix BOGO: https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2026/09/17/heres-why-bogo-rules-at-florida-publix-stores-are-different/ (https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2026/09/17/heres-why-bogo-rules-at-florida-publix-stores-are-different/) AutoNation DRV PNK 10-Year Announcement: https://newsroom.autonation.com/autonation-news/autonation-news-details/2026/AutoNation-Celebrates-10-Years-of-DRV-PNK-with-1-Million-in-New-Cancer-Grants-and-More-than-50-Million-Raised-and-Donated-Nationwide/default.aspx (https://newsroom.autonation.com/autonation-news/autonation-news-details/2026/AutoNation-Celebrates-10-Years-of-DRV-PNK-with-1-Million-in-New-Cancer-Grants-and-More-than-50-Million-Raised-and-Donated-Nationwide/default.aspx) Brightline and BSO Rail-Safety Campaign: https://www.gobrightline.com/press-room/2026/brightline-launches-national-see-tracks-think-train-week-with-broward-sheriffs-office-211-broward-and-community-partners (https://www.gobrightline.com/press-room/2026/brightline-launches-national-see-tracks-think-train-week-with-broward-sheriffs-office-211-broward-and-community-partners) Broward Schools Enrollment Decline Report: https://www.wlrn.org/education/2026-09-22/new-report-shows-12-300-enrollment-decline-for-broward-schools-larger-than-first-day-count (https://www.wlrn.org/education/2026-09-22/new-report-shows-12-300-enrollment-decline-for-broward-schools-larger-than-first-day-count) Big City Tavern Closure Report: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2026/09/17/big-city-tavern-closing-after-25-years-on-fort-lauderdales-las-olas-boulevard/ (https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2026/09/17/big-city-tavern-closing-after-25-years-on-fort-lauderdales-las-olas-boulevard/) Yardbird Chapter 11 Report: https://www.nrn.com/casual-dining/yardbird-files-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy (https://www.nrn.com/casual-dining/yardbird-files-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy) === Events / Attractions / Venues National See Tracks?
