Who Is Your King? Week 4
🔴 LIVE: GIVE US A KING! 👑 | 1 Samuel 8
In this 1 Samuel sermon, Randy explores Israel's demand for a human king and the danger of putting our ultimate hope in political leaders. Discover how to support human authority without letting it steal the throne of your heart.
Right now, we are seeing something interesting happen politically. People across the spectrum—including strong supporters of President Trump—are wrestling with disappointment over rising costs, energy prices, and unfulfilled promises. This tension forces Christians to ask a critical question: How do we support a leader without making that leader our king? Blind loyalty is dangerous, no matter who it is. We can vote, defend good policies, and pray for our leaders, but we must remember that human leaders belong in a category far beneath Jesus.
Today we are diving into 1 Samuel 8 to look at one of the most pivotal decisions in Israel’s history. Just one chapter after Yahweh literally thundered from heaven to defeat their enemies, Israel looks at Samuel and demands a human king so they can be "like all the nations."
We’re breaking down:
✅ Like the Nations: Why Israel's demand wasn't just a request for a new government structure, but a theological rejection of Yahweh as their King. 🌍
✅ The Pattern of Human Power: Samuel's stark warning that human kings will always "take, take, take," contrasting beautifully with Jesus, the true King who came to give His life. 🤲
✅ A Terrible Messiah: Why no election can save a country from sin, no legislature can produce the fruit of the Spirit, and why politics makes a terrible savior. 🗳️
✅ Who Fights Your Battles?: How idolatry works today. We rarely stop believing in God; we just move our trust to visible things like bank accounts, political parties, and control. ⚔️
Government has a God-given role, but any human being you ask to carry the weight that belongs to God will eventually disappoint you. You can care deeply about politics without allowing politics to disciple you. Stop asking a human king to do God's job, and put your ultimate trust in the King who actually fights for you.
