GIOVANNI RIBISI: Saving Private Ryan to Avatar & Now Cinematographer | LIFE IN FILM (Re-Release)

Join this channel to get access to perks: EARLY Access, EXCLUSIVE Episodes & Much More! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpeD7roEp99UANH0HVZ3dOA/join 🎙️ About This Episode As I am on my summer holidays we are throwing it back to one of my favourite episodes! Giovanni Ribisi is an Emmy-nominated actor and one of the most respected and versatile character actors of his generation. Starting his career as a child, he appeared in early television roles including The Twilight Zone and The X-Files, before breaking through with standout performances in films such as Boiler Room, Gone in 60 Seconds and Saving Private Ryan. He's also instantly recognisable as Phoebe's eccentric brother Frank Jr. in Friends, the enigmatic conman at the heart of Sneaky Pete, and for his brilliantly bizarre dance in Ted. But his career goes far beyond those iconic roles. In this episode, we talk about working with James Cameron on the Avatar films, what keeps Giovanni so passionate about filmmaking after decades in the industry, and his decision to step behind the camera for his latest film, the breathtaking Strange Darling. […] And this is a big thing that I learned in terms of how bucking the system helped me in film. So essentially in sport, I was part of this kind of funded program. And really, I was led to believe that there was only one way to become a world champion. Right. And if I could not follow that one way, then I wasn't going to be one. And that was the kind of mindset. And when you're younger, you buy into that because you don't really know any different. But I knew there was something different. I knew who I was and my heart was different. And so when we moved out to California, it was a chance for me to kind of shed the skin of being an athlete, of being kind of put in this box about this failure that I'd had in my life and this athlete I thought I should have been and wasn't.
