[Life:121] The Duty of Learning and Teaching Hadith + The Prophet’s 30 Step Ramadan program
In this important lesson of the Life: The Islamic Answer series, Dr. Sayid Jafar Al-Hasany explores why Hadith is a foundational Islamic science and an essential type of knowledge every believer is encouraged to acquire.
Building on the Qur’an as the primary source of guidance, this lecture explains:
What it truly means to “preserve” forty narrations — beyond simple memorization
How learning and teaching Hadith protects faith and strengthens communities
The responsibility to educate youth through Hadith before harmful ideologies influence them
A historical look at early theological trends such as the Murji'ah and their impact on Islamic belief
This lesson highlights Hadith as more than an ancient narration — it is a living source of divine knowledge, spiritual growth, and intellectual protection.
Perfect for students of Islamic studies, parents, and anyone seeking deeper understanding of Qur’an, Sunnah, and the teachings of Ahlulbayt.

How do we know what is truly from the Prophet ﷺ and the Ahlulbayt (ع)? How do we distinguish authentic guidance from fabrication? And why does Islam command us not only to learn hadith - but to deeply understand it?
In this latest installment of of our Life series: Types of Knowledge is Islam, we move from the theoretical foundations of religious knowledge into the practical, necessary study of Hadith. Building upon our previous discussions on the Quran as the core of Islamic epistemology and Hadeeth al-Thaqalayn, this lesson explores how the Holy Quran functions as the ultimate criterion (furqan) for evaluating narrations.
In this lecture, we study the following questions:
what is the relationship between the Holy Quran and the Hadeeth (the Tradition / narrations)?
what is the most important criterion for assessing the validity and authenticity of a narration?
if all knowledge is contained in the Holy Quran, why are we not able to extract its deepest meanings ourselves?
whose narrations are included in the notion of Sunna / Tradition?
In this lecture, we bridge the gap between the Holy Quran and the Sunnah. We analyze why the Prophet (s) left behind Two Weighty Things, not just one, and what that means for our faith today.
This is a must-watch for anyone seeking to understand how Islam constructs its epistemological framework.

[Life:119] The History and Context of Hadith: ilm al-Hadith & ilm al-Dirāyah
How was the Prophet’s Sunnah preserved after his passing, and how can it be understood with reliability today? Join us as we establish the foundational framework of Hadith studies, situating Hadith within its proper relationship to the Qur’an in Islamic thought. Drawing on the Prophet’s teaching about “the two weighty things”-the Qur’an and his progeny (Ahl al-Bayt)- this framework clarifies why Qur’an and Hadith are inseparable, with the Qur’an serving as the ultimate authority and Hadith as its essential guide.
Within this framework, we introduce (ilm al-Ḥadith), the science concerned with transmission, and (ilm al-Dirayah), the science of analysis, bringing to light lesser-known dimensions of Hadith history. These include early restrictions on recording narrations, later political pressures, the emergence of fabricated Hadith and Israelite reports, and the constrained historical circumstances under which the Imams preserved and conveyed prophetic knowledge—realities that are essential for approaching Hadith with intellectual honesty and deep understanding today.
