About Life with People

Life with People: A podcast on building community right where you are. Hey guys! I’m Theresa and I love doing life with people. I'm convinced that community brings meaning, belonging and purpose to our daily lives, but sadly, we often find ourselves disconnected from the authentic forms of community we deeply long for. My goal with this podcast is to give hope that finding, building, rebuilding or reimagining community is not only possible, it’s within reach; and to release vision on how to can move toward it while providing resources and tools to help make it happen. I’m here learning right along with you. I literally started this podcast out of my own place of longing to build community in this weird divided world we find ourselves in. Episode 13: Surfing for Freedom with Elle Miller

Earlier this year, I got to talk with MTC Surf founder Elle Miller. My favorite part of Elle’s story is that she found healing on her surfboard and has now committed her life to sharing this gift of healing with those in foster care. I loved hearing about how the surf community and the foster care community are colliding through this very special organization, and I hope that you are inspired as you listen in. As always, I value your feedback and your insight into what community looks like for you. Episode 11: Clear Communication with Prudence Dancy

This episode was recorded on a random Thursday afternoon when I stopped by my friend Prudence Dancy's home. As we were hanging out, our conversation turned to the topic of clear communication. As we continued to talk, it hit me how valuable this topic is in doing life with people. I was like, "Wait, Prudence, we really need to record this conversation for the podcast." Thankfully, she agreed. Prudence Dancy is a dear friend and mentor of mine, and she has her own podcast, Pause with Prudence (https://www.pausewithprudence.com/). Ep. 10 On Lifelong Friendships with Mickie Marrone

In this episode, I sit down with my 92-year-old grandmother, Mickie Marrone. My grandma has always been good at making and keeping friends. Everywhere she goes, everywhere she lives, she surrounds herself with vibrant friendships. This woman has a social life at 92 that would put most of the people I know to shame. Because of that, I wanted to sit down and talk to her. How does she make friends? How does she keep them? What things can I learn from her? We had this conversation toward the end of January 2026. Honestly, it took me a while to convince her to do this with me, and I'm glad that she did. I hope you enjoy this episode with the matriarch of my family, Mickie Marrone. As always, I value your feedback. So feel free to DM me, email me, take our community survey, send up a flare, do whatever you gotta do, but please reach out! Ep 9: On Friendship & Healing; Not A Run Club with Matthew Bacchus

In this episode, I catch up with my friend, Matthew Bacchus. Matthew is a licensed professional counselor based out of CO and TX. I wanted to have Matthew on the podcast because he has a gift for connecting with people and cultivating friendships. The episode is full of life and fun and laughter, but we also hit some very deep topics, so I wanted to give you a heads up that there are a couple of points in this episode where we talk about sensitive things like suicide and self-harm. That being said, I wanna take a quick moment to say thank you to Matthew for sharing his life with us and for being willing to share some pretty vulnerable parts of his story. As always, I value your feedback. So feel free to DM me, email me, take our community survey, send up a flare, do whatever you gotta do, but please reach out! Episode 6: Holding Space for Grief Part 1 with Noelle Roberts

This episode kicks off a series of conversations around the topic of grief and how we can hold space for it in our relationships. It's a topic that while I feel is gaining more awareness, is more often ignored when we think about building community and doing life with people. Truthfully, I think one of the main reasons is because it feels hard, heavy and it often requires something from us. It requires courage to wade into the uncomfortable waters of grief, to sit with them in their losses and to walk alongside them in dark seasons. And because grief looks and feels different for everyone I think one of the most powerful ways we can learn about it is by hearing people's stories. In this episode I talk with my good friend Noelle Roberts about her story of loss, facing a side of God she didn't recognize, sifting through ashes and learning how to dream again. You're going to want to lean in for this one... Episode 4: Vulnerability is a Doorway

In this episode I reflect on my conversation with Mika and Moriah from Episode 3. I focus primarily on the the following: 1. Vulnerability is an entryway (or a doorway) for deeper connection 2. How we can lean into vulnerability ourselves and invite others into deeper levels of vulnerability 3. Naming a few fears that sometimes pop up when we choose to be vulnerable. I would love to hear some ways you are being intentional with your relationships! What's working for you? What fears are you facing?

Episode 3: Community is Friendship with Moriah McLeod & Mika Harris

I hope you enjoy with episode with my friends Moriah McLeod and Mika Harris. Our original intention was to discuss a book we were all reading but we ended up simply having a conversation about what community looks like for each of us in this season. I confess, we laughed a lot and I found the limits of my cheap microphone, so apologies for that. But if you can get through our silly banter and laughing spells I believe you’ll get some gems from today’s episode. Together we talk about the impact of community on vulnerable groups of people, how community looks different for everyone, how vulnerability unlocks community and so much more. If you make it to the end drop a comment letting us know what color you are today! As always, I value your feedback and your own personal insights into what community looks like for you. Episode 2: Try Try Again- My Reflections on a Failed Pumpkin Patch and Other Mishaps

On this episode, I reflect on the conversation that we had with Daniel and Marissa Zheng last episode. In particular I focus on Daniel's encouragement to not take rejection personally when you are building relationships with people. In my reflecting, I share some personal stories of failure and how those failures actually helped me to establish friends in my new city (eventually).  At the very least, I hope that some of these stories make you laugh. Let me know if you can relate! What out of the box things have you tried to make a friend?  Did it work? Episode 1: Making Space for Meaningful Connections with Daniel and Marissa Zheng

Hey guys! I’m Theresa and I love doing life with people. I believe community helps to bring meaning, belonging and purpose to our daily lives, but sadly, more and more we are disconnected from the authentic forms of community we deeply long for. My goal with this podcast is to give hope that finding, building, rebuilding or re imagining community is not only possible, it’s within your reach, to release vision on how you can move toward it and to provide resources and tools to help make it happen. I’m here learning right along with you. I literally started this podcast out of my own place of longing to build community in this odd post pandemic, divided world we all find ourselves in. We recorded this episode with Daniel and Marissa Zheng at the beginning of the year about a week before they made a big move with their family of 4. We talk about what it’s like making friends in a new city and how powerful consistency is when it comes to building community. We also talk about how following the practice of the sabbath with others can form us in ways that we didn’t expect. I hope you enjoy this conversation with my dear friends. As always, I value your feedback and your own personal insights into what community looks like for you.
