The Victoria Cross is the highest honour that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth servicemen. It has to be awarded at a level in presence of the enemy. It's awarded without distinction to rank or service. So, the great thing about the Victoria Cross, unlike many gallantry medals, is that a private soldier with six weeks of service can equally get it as a general count with a lifetime of service. And it has no distinction for rank or anything. It is the highest award that the country can give anybody. […]
