Ep. 12: Who’s Gonna Keep the Baby? | The Question That Followed Me to Ethiopia
In 2005, a simple question from my stepmother followed me all the way to Africa, and honestly, for years after that. “Who’s gonna keep the baby?” seemed practical on the surface. Underneath it was a whole inheritance, about what good mothers sacrifice, who responsible women put first, and how much of herself a woman is allowed to keep once she becomes someone else’s everything. In this episode, I take you back to the Ethiopia trip that started it all and unpack what generational healing actually looks like when it isn’t dramatic. Sometimes it’s simply hearing an old question and choosing a new answer. Dr. Makeba Presents: Living 4.Love is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In this episode: * Why breaking a pattern and healing a pattern aren’t always the same moment * How generational beliefs travel through sentences, expectations, and the questions we stop questioning * The Soul Bloom framework: Unearth, Clear, Center, Empower * What it means to heal forward, for the women watching you live your life * The question nobody asked the women who came before us, and why it matters now Soul Inquiry for this week: What old question are you still answering? What sentence did somebody hand you years ago that still quietly governs your choices, and does it still belong in your life? Ready to go somewhere for yourself, properly? I’m holding an open house about the Soul Bloom Retreats I’m leading in 2027. No pressure, no pitch, just 45 minutes and every question you’ve got. 🗓 Next info session: Thursday, October 29, 7-7:45 p.m. Eastern 👉 Reserve your spot: https://calendly.com/drmakeba4love/soul-bloom-costa-rica-india-info-session (https://calendly.com/drmakeba4love/soul-bloom-costa-rica-india-info-session) With love, Dr. Makeba If you’d like to know when healing sessions, classes and courses, Soul Bloom Retreats and sacred gatherings open, join my invitations list. Ep11: Living Your Truth in the In-Between | An Our Lady of Truth Reflection
You can’t quite fit into your old life anymore, and the new one hasn’t fully landed yet. If that’s where you are right now, this episode is for you. This week is a little different. On Sunday, I published “My Spirit Said Speak, Even If No One Is Listening,” a reflection on the quiet woman I used to be, the one who held every idea in her head until someone made her talk. I sometimes like to pull an oracle card when I’m reflecting on something in my own life. About a year ago, I pulled Our Lady of Truth from Alana Fairchild’s Mother Mary Oracle and recorded myself sitting with the message. When I watched that recording again this week, I heard Sunday’s message coming from a slightly different direction: your truth may cost you some of the old life, but you still get to live your life. For 25+ years I worked inside large institutions and had received a steady paycheck every other week since I was 16. Now I’m a solopreneur doing every job in my business myself. In this episode, I share the honest version of that in-between season, what it asks you to release, what happens when people say you’re “not acting like yourself,” and why becoming more fully yourself can unsettle the people who knew an earlier version of you. I also talk about energy and frequency, spiritual entrepreneurship, truth in relationships, the fear of losing status or material things, trusting God with outcomes, calling in divine feminine protection, and using journaling to get closer to what is true for you. Near the end, I share a prayer for protection and a simple journaling invitation for anyone trying to hear their own truth more clearly. Ep10: Maybe It’s Not You. Maybe It’s the Container. | What My Garden Taught Me About Growth
I have a confession: I’m a new gardener, and I’ve killed things. Plants, to be clear. My first blueberry plant died even though I gave it water and sun, and I’m pretty sure I gave it a pep talk too. The next year I did my homework and learned that my blueberry needed another compatible blueberry nearby for better cross-pollination. I’d been treating the plant like something was wrong with it when what it needed was community. Then one of my roses stopped blooming. When I finally looked, the roots had circled the pot until they hit the wall. A perfectly healthy plant had outgrown its container. Somewhere between the blueberry and the rose, I realized we do the same thing to people. When someone isn’t thriving, we ask what’s wrong with her, and then we pile on another book, another course, another supplement, more discipline. In this episode of Living 4.Love Notes, I’m inviting you to look at the soil first. Humans make sense in context. For years I tried to make myself more resilient, even though I’d built an entire career on handling things. The question that finally changed everything was this one: Why do I need this much strength just to live my life? We live inside containers everywhere, from marriages and workplaces to churches, retreats and even our social media feeds. Some hold us and some constrain us, and some that once served us become too small for who we’re becoming. Sometimes nothing is wrong with the container at all. You’re simply in winter, and the important work is happening underground. Dr. Makeba Presents: Living 4.Love is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In this episode, we explore: * What a dead blueberry plant taught me about community * The root-bound rose, and what happens when we outgrow the pot that once held us * Why we keep adding more fixes when the conditions may be what needs to change * Why I stopped asking how to make myself stronger * What happened in Morocco when our travelers stepped into a container built to hold them * Why the space and the permission can matter more than the cacao or the sound bath * How to tell whether a container helps you grow or asks you to shrink * Honoring the career and relationships that held earlier versions of me * Why healing can’t only be individual, and what I’m dreaming for the Living 4.Love Collective * How Soul Bloom work moves from unearthing to blooming, and why sometimes the most aligned choice is changing the conditions * Telling the difference between a hard season and a container you’ve outgrown * A closing affirmation to honor the season you’re actually in Your Soul Inquiry Choose one area of your life that isn’t flourishing, and resist the urge to fix it yet. Before you ask, “What’s wrong with me?” ask: * How’s the soil? * What am I feeding this, and what am I withholding? * Is there enough room? * What season am I actually in? * Who’s growing beside me? Then sit longest with this one: Am I trying to force myself to bloom somewhere I actually need to root, or somewhere I’ve already outgrown? Pull Up a Chair: Sunday Supper My blueberry needed a neighbor, and sometimes we do too. Sunday Supper is my monthly long table in Atlanta for curious people who want good food and real conversation with nobody performing. Our first supper is Sunday, October 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. Registration closes October 18, and there are only 12 seats at the table. Everyone at the October table gets first pick of seats for the next two suppers before they open to the public. Those are Friendsgiving on November 22 and our Holiday Gathering on December 20, both from 4 to 6 p.m. If October doesn’t work for you, join the mailing list and you’ll hear as soon as those seats open. 👉 Reserve your seat or join the list:https://sundaysupper.drmakeba4love.com/ Another Blueberry: The Living 4.Love Collective I’m building the Collective as an ecosystem, a community of people walking the same road who will witness you, challenge you, and tell you the truth about what you’ve been avoiding. It’s still taking shape, and I’ll share more when it’s ready. A 4Love Reminder Maybe you don’t need more fixing. Maybe you need better soil. Maybe you need more room. Maybe you need another blueberry. Or maybe you simply need to stop digging up the seed every five minutes to see whether it’s growing. Real transformation does not rush. It roots. May your spirit be light and your soul be free. Ep9: You Used to Be My Rich Daughter
About a year after I left my corporate career, I was having lunch with my mother when she pulled out her credit card and said, half-jokingly, “You used to be my rich daughter.” I laughed. Then that little sentence followed me home. Technically, she wasn’t wrong. I spent more than 20 years in corporate America, with the senior-level titles, the degrees, the big house, the clothes and the American Express bill, all the recognizable evidence that tells the world, She’s doing well. And yet I’ve had more money than I have now, and I’ve never felt richer. In this episode of Living 4.Love Notes, I’m asking a question I’ve had to answer for myself: Who taught you what rich means? I still like money. I like beautiful hotels, good food, travel and being able to care for myself and the people I love. I’m building a business, and I want it to prosper. Money was always a fine goal. It just never should have been a measure. Money can create comfort, access, options and safety. It can NOT tell you who you are, give you purpose, make a misaligned life feel aligned, create intimacy or manufacture peace, and it certainly can’t have a relationship with God for you. So we go deeper, into the definitions of success we inherit from family and culture, why humans make sense in context, and how Soul Bloom work helps us discern what to keep and what we’re ready to release. I don’t want to choose between prosperity and peace. I want a life spacious enough to hold both. In this episode, we explore: * The lunchtime comment from my mother that changed the way I think about wealth * Why money is neither the problem nor the solution to everything * How family, culture and conditioning shape our definitions of success * Why leaving one life doesn’t automatically free us from its programming * The danger of recreating an exhausting corporate life inside entrepreneurship, or even spirituality * How Soul Bloom work helps us unearth, clear and center before we choose again * Why alignment can be as practical as looking at your calendar and bank statement * The many currencies of wealth: peace, time, purpose, community, freedom, love, God, joy and prosperity * Why I’m starting Sunday Suppers, and what a long table has to do with my definition of richness * A closing meditation to give yourself permission to define a rich life on your own terms Your Soul Inquiry Finish this sentence: I will know I am rich when... Don’t answer quickly, and don’t give me the Instagram answer. Sit with what would actually make you feel rich. Security? Freedom? Time? Meaningful work? People you can call at 2 a.m.? The ability to help your children? A quiet Tuesday afternoon? Peaceful sleep? A deeper relationship with God? Waking up and realizing you actually like yourself? Your life is already telling a story about what you value. Is it the story you want it to tell? Pull Up a Chair: Sunday Suppers Rich, for me, is a long table with people around it who don’t need me to be impressive. The first Sunday Supper is Sunday, October 25th: a table, a meal, real conversation, nobody performing. The details are still coming together. Email me at drmakeba@living4.love (mailto:drmakeba@living4.love?subject=Sunday%20Suppers) with “Sunday Suppers” in the subject line, and I’ll send them to you myself as soon as they’re ready. A 4Love Reminder Maybe the work isn’t rejecting success. Maybe it’s reclaiming your authority to define it. You are the soul of your story. You get to decide what richness means now. And as for me? I’m still my mother’s rich daughter. We’ve just expanded the definition. May your spirit be light and your soul be free. Ep8: Dancing Around the Fire
I was dancing around a fire in Morocco when a memory surfaced, and with it a grudge I didn't know I was still carrying. This episode is about what that fire taught me. Why some things only come forward when the conditions are right, what a container actually is and why it matters more than any single practice, and why remembering something painful doesn't mean you've gone backward. Two travelers share what the journey gave them. One learned in her body that she could surrender without being abandoned. The other realized she didn't need another breakthrough, she needed to celebrate how far she'd already come. This week's Soul Inquiry: What am I being invited to remember? And what kind of container would support what I'm becoming? 🌿 Remember: a Soul Bloom pilgrimage through India, November 2027. Eight travelers. Ep7: Coping in the Car
Living4.Love: Notes, Episode 7 Dear heart, I remember sitting in my car during my lunch break crying. I was in my late twenties. Six figures. The title. The office. The suit I had always wanted to wear when I grew up. From the outside, everything looked exactly the way it was supposed to look. And there I was, trying to get myself together before lunch was over because people were waiting for me and there was work to do. So I did what I knew how to do. I checked my face in the mirror, took a breath, opened the car door, and went back inside. And I performed. That’s the part we don’t always talk about. Performance works, at least for a while. And people reward you for it. They promote you. They call you strong. They pile on more work. And sometimes you take that praise as evidence that everything is okay. I know I did. But here’s what I’ve learned since then: a strength can become a survival strategy when you no longer know how to put it down. And when you’ve been performing long enough, it stops feeling like performance. It just feels like personality. I’m just responsible. I’m just independent. I just like things done correctly. It’s easier if I do it myself. Sound familiar? This episode is about that. About what happens when the performance that kept you safe, that earned you love and approval and a place in the room, starts costing you more than it’s giving. About what healing actually requires, and why it’s more inconvenient than we’d like it to be. About the woman underneath all the adaptations, and why she’s worth finding. In this episode we explore: * The woman in the car, and why the question isn’t what was wrong with her but what happened that made this way of being make sense * Why performance works, and why that’s exactly what makes it so hard to put down * How a strength becomes a survival strategy, and the moment you realize you don’t know how to stop * What it means that healing gets inconvenient, and why sometimes it asks not what you need to add but what you need to stop * The Soul Bloom Method’s first movement, Unearth, and why we have to honor a pattern before we can release it * Why you can do enormous amounts of inner work and walk right back into an environment that expects the old version of you * What a safe container actually does, and why sometimes you need a room where the old role simply isn’t required * What wholeness really means, not eliminating one side of yourself but making room for all of yourself Your soul inquiry for this week: Think of one role you play really well. Just one. The strong one. The good daughter. The perfect mother. The successful executive. The peacemaker. The dependable friend. The one who never needs anyone. The one who always knows what to do. And ask yourself: When did I learn that I needed to be this? What has this role given me? What has it cost me? And who might I be if I didn’t have to perform this role all the time? Don’t rush that last one. You may not know yet, and that’s okay. Maybe not knowing is exactly where it begins. Because healing isn’t another performance. You don’t have to become the best healer or win at spiritual awakening. You don’t have to be perfectly balanced or turn your healing into another achievement. You need room to tell the truth, room to feel, and perhaps a container where you can practice being someone who doesn’t have to earn her place in the room. If this episode found something in you, you might be ready for a different kind of container. Soul Bloom Retreats are sacred spaces designed for exactly this: the woman who is ready to stop performing and start discovering who she is underneath all of it. Not the polished version. Not the broken version. The true version. Ep6: Strange Things Happen in the Jungle
Dear Heart, Strange things happen in the jungle. I was in Costa Rica preparing for my Awaken retreat, and I was carrying something I didn’t think anyone could really see. It wasn’t panic or a crisis. It was something quieter than that. The kind of fear that shows up when what you’re doing feels bigger than business, when you’re not just asking whether something will sell, but whether you heard correctly. Whether you can trust what you’ve been shown. Whether God will protect and provide not just for you, but for the mission. I was sitting with all of that when Spirit decided to communicate through bug legs. Three of them. From what appeared to be three very large bugs. In three different places. No bodies. No wings. Just legs. And after the sacred ceremony we’d experienced the day before, the storytelling, the releasing, the naming of things that needed to be left behind, I wasn’t about to dismiss them. So I got curious. And what I received has stayed with me ever since. In this episode we explore: * Why curiosity may be one of the most underrated spiritual practices, and how it has changed the way Dr. Makeba moves through her life * The difference between asking what happened and asking what might this be showing me, and why both questions matter * Why we sometimes need to stop fighting the fear we’re carrying and become still enough to notice how much of it has already fallen away * How Spirit speaks through small, ordinary things, and why we often miss it because we’re waiting for something more dramatic * Why presence isn’t a spiritual performance, and why the message may have been arriving all day before we were quiet enough to hear it * What container actually does in a healing space, and why changing your environment can change what’s finally able to reach you * Why your story, including the painful parts, may be the very bridge that helps someone else understand their own now Your soul inquiry for this week: What’s been getting my attention lately? And what changes if I become curious about it instead of dismissing it? Don’t force an answer. Don’t decode every leaf that falls in your yard. Just notice. Let the meaning unfold at its own pace, because Spirit doesn’t always arrive with ceremony. Sometimes the sacred is sitting right in the middle of the ordinary, waiting for you to slow down enough to see it. If this episode is speaking to something in you, you might be ready for a different container. The Soul Bloom Retreats are exactly what this episode describes, sacred spaces designed to create the conditions where what’s been trying to reach you finally has enough room to be heard. The Awaken Retreat (Costa Rica, April 11-17, 2027) is where this journey begins. Join Dr. Makeba for a live webinar to learn more, ask questions, and feel into whether a Soul Bloom Retreat is your next right step. 👉 [Reserve your seat here] (https://calendly.com/drmakeba4love/the-soul-ascension-experience) The webinar runs weekly, so whenever you’re ready, there’s a seat for you. Ep5: Claircognizant
I didn’t know I was claircognizant. I thought I just knew things. For more than twenty years I worked in corporate environments where knowing wasn’t enough. Where’s the data? What’s the evidence? How did you reach that conclusion? And I believed in all of that, I still do. I have a doctorate. I’m a strategist. I’ve spent a significant part of my life helping organizations make complex decisions from evidence. So it took me a while to reckon with the fact that some of the most consequential information I’ve ever received in my own life didn’t arrive through analysis at all. It arrived as knowing. In this episode I want to talk about what claircognizance actually is, how I learned to recognize it in myself, and, more importantly, why having a spiritual gift is not the same thing as knowing what to do with it. Because fear can sound like knowing. Desire can sound like knowing. Anxiety can be extraordinarily convincing. And sometimes we want something so badly that we interpret everything as confirmation. I’ve done it. You’ve probably done it too. So, this episode isn’t just about opening up. It’s about becoming more grounded, more honest, and more discerning about what you’re actually receiving and where it’s actually coming from. In this episode we explore: * What claircognizance is and how it differs from other intuitive gifts * Why so many of us learned early which kinds of knowing we were allowed to trust, and why that matters * The difference between a true knowing and anxiety, ego, desire, or an old wound trying to protect you * Why developing a spiritual gift requires discernment, not just openness * How healing and intuition are more connected than we often acknowledge * Why a good container doesn’t tell you what to hear, it gives you enough room to hear yourself Your soul inquiry for this week: What have I known that I keep asking someone else to confirm? Don’t rush to answer it. Just notice. What happens in your body when you sit with that question? What thoughts arrive? What becomes quiet? You might even start a small knowing journal, not to make every entry sacred, but to begin learning your own patterns. Your own language. Because your spiritual gifts aren’t useful simply because you have them. You have to develop a relationship with them, and that relationship requires curiosity, discernment, and practice. Just like every other relationship worth having. If this episode found you at the right moment, the best thing you can do is subscribe so you never miss what comes next. Ep4: Holy Fog
You did the work. You left the marriage. You left the job. You left the life that looked right but felt like a costume. And then you thought you were free. And then the silence came. Not the old silence — the hollow one, the one that lived in the house, in the mirror, in the space between you and the person sleeping downstairs. This was different. This silence was spiritual. Your guides went quiet. The synchronicities slowed. The meditation felt dry. And somewhere in the stillness you whispered the question nobody warned you about — Did I imagine all of this? Episode 4 of Living4.Love: Notes is called Holy Fog: The Part of Awakening Nobody Talks About. Because the dark night after the awakening is real. It’s disorienting. And it’s also, I promise you, holy. You’re not broken. You’re not off path. You’re not failing the assignment. You’re integrating. Come sit with me. 🤍 If this is someone else’s season, send it to them. They need to hear this. Ep3: Gratitude Is the Portal
Gratitude Is the Portal Not the fluffy kind. The kind that actually changes something. Can we talk about gratitude for a second — the real kind? Not the list you write in the morning just to feel like a good spiritual student. Not the reflexive “I’m blessed” you say when someone asks how you’re doing. Not the performance of positivity that keeps everyone comfortable while something inside you quietly unravels. I mean the kind of gratitude that stops the spiral. That cuts through the noise. That re-tunes something in you when life feels too loud, too fast, too much. That’s the kind I want to talk about. Because that kind is a technology. And most of us were never taught how to use it. There was a period in my life when I had everything I was supposed to want. The degrees. The house. The marriage. The career. The child. The life that made sense on paper and looked good in pictures. And still — I felt a void. I felt restless and disconnected and quietly, persistently unfulfilled. And people around me would say things like, well, at least you have your health. Or, you should be grateful — look at everything you have. And they weren’t wrong, technically. I wasn’t ungrateful. I knew what I had. What I was, was disconnected. And that’s the distinction that changes everything. Gratitude isn’t about pretending things are fine when they aren’t. It isn’t the spiritual bypass people reach for when they don’t know what else to say. It’s something much more precise than that. It’s finding a thread of truth you can actually hold onto — even in the middle of the unraveling. Even when everything feels uncertain. Even when you don’t know what comes next. That thread is the portal back to yourself. Here’s what I want you to hear clearly: gratitude is not complacency. It doesn’t mean settling. It doesn’t mean silencing your desire for more. It doesn’t mean pretending the hard things aren’t hard. It means stopping the reaching from lack long enough to remember what’s already here. It means you can hold a vision for your future and be present to this moment. You can want more and still bless what is. Those two things are not in conflict. They never were. The problem is most of us were taught that wanting more meant we had to be dissatisfied with now. That ambition required a constant state of not-enough. So we kept pushing, striving, chasing — and wondering why we felt so empty even as we achieved. That’s not ambition. That’s misalignment dressed up as productivity. When I’m spinning — when I feel ungrounded or anxious or just over it — I stop. I put my hand on my heart. And I come back to the moment. I am grateful for this breath. For this body. For this moment. I am already enough. Something softens when I do that. Every time. Not because the hard thing disappears, but because I’ve stopped trying to move through it from fear. I’ve re-tuned. I’ve returned. That’s what gratitude does when you actually use it. It doesn’t deny the difficulty. It shifts the frequency you’re operating from. And you cannot build anything sustainable — not a business, not a relationship, not a healed life — from the frequency of lack and fear. You just can’t. So let me ask you something. Where have you mistaken ambition for alignment? Where have you been pushing and chasing and striving — when what your soul actually needed was to stop and receive? What if the next breakthrough doesn’t come from doing more, but from finally acknowledging what’s already been given? Find something to bless today. Something small. Something true. Something you can actually feel, not just recite. Let that be your return. 🎧 [Listen to Episode 3: Gratitude Is the Portal] And if you’re ready to go deeper — to practice this in community, in your body, in real time — I’d love to have you inside the Living 4.Love Inner Circle. We make space for the real, not just the highlight reel. Retreat experiences are also open. Ep2: What Is 4.Love?
When most people hear “Living 4.Love,” they assume they know what it means. Something soft. Something sweet. Maybe a little naive. A nice idea for people who haven’t had to deal with real life yet. I understand that. I really do. But what if love isn’t soft at all? What if it’s actually the most grounded, most structured, most sacred thing you could ever build your life on? That’s what I want to talk about today. Dr. Makeba Presents: Living 4.Love is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. A few years ago, I was sitting in a parked car with a pen in my hand and a chest full of things I hadn’t said out loud yet. I wasn’t happy in my job. I wasn’t truly free in my marriage. I was functioning — high-functioning, actually — but I wasn’t me. I was just chugging along, doing what life asked of me, waiting for something to break open. Something did. Seven days after my first Reiki attunement, something poured through me that I can only describe as a transmission. A message so clear, so specific, so personal that when it was done, all I could do was weep. Not from grief. From recognition. For the first time in a long time, I understood that I wasn’t crazy, I wasn’t lost, I wasn’t too much. I was being called. That message became the foundation of everything I now teach, everything I live, and everything I bring into this podcast. So what does 4.Love actually mean? It’s not about being nice. It’s not about keeping the peace at the cost of your own. It’s not about bypassing pain or staying positive when something is genuinely breaking you down. 4.Love is a sacred state of being. A return. A remembrance. It’s built on four pillars, and they are not suggestions — they are the architecture of a sovereign life. Peace — not just in your schedule, but in your nervous system. The kind that doesn’t require everything to be okay in order to exist. Truth — not just in what you say, but in how you walk. What your soul knows even when your mind is still negotiating. Freedom — to live, move, speak, and feel from a place of wholeness instead of performance. Love — not romance, not sentimentality, but divine remembrance. A return to your sacred self. These pillars aren’t just personal. They ripple. They’re how we change things — one heart, one household, one community at a time. Here’s what living inside these pillars actually looks like. It looks like setting a boundary without writing a three-paragraph apology for it. It looks like saying no when your spirit says no, even when everyone around you is waiting for a yes. It looks like choosing stillness on a day when the world wants your urgency. It looks like trusting what you know — especially when it doesn’t make sense to anyone else, and honestly, sometimes not even to you. I won’t pretend I’ve mastered any of this. I slip. I forget. I sometimes choose comfort when I know better. But I come back — to truth, to alignment, to myself. That returning is the practice. That’s what 4.Love actually is. So let me ask you something before you move on with your day. Where have you chosen comfort over truth? Where have you confused performing peace with actually having it? What would shift — even slightly — if you trusted your soul more than your strategy? You don’t have to have the answers right now. Just sit with the questions. This podcast is not just about healing. It’s about remembering. It’s not just about inspiration. It’s about embodiment — actually living this, in the trenches, on the hard days, in the ordinary moments that nobody sees. You are not broken. Maybe bruised, maybe tired, but you are blooming. And this is your space to do exactly that. 🎧 Listen to Episode 2: What Is 4.Love? With Love, Dr. Makeba 🌻 You don’t have to earn your worth. Ep1: You Are the Soul of Your Story
Let me be honest with you from the jump. I’m not writing this from the mountaintop. I’m not on the other side of the transformation, looking back with a tidy bow on everything. I’m in it. Right now. Building a new life, a new identity, a new relationship with myself — in real time, with real stakes, and some real uncomfortable days in between. That’s why this podcast exists. Living 4.Love Notes is not a highlight reel. It’s not a masterclass from someone who figured it all out. It’s a walk — sometimes a stumble — through what it actually looks like to choose yourself, trust your soul, and live from a place of love when the world makes it difficult. Dr. Makeba Presents: Living 4.Love is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Here’s what I used to think living for love meant. I thought it meant being kind. Showing up. Giving everything I had to the people and the work in front of me. And I did all of that — for decades. I had the career, the credentials, the title, the life that looked, from the outside, like it was working. But I was lost. I was the supporting character in my own story. The right hand, the deputy, the one who made everyone else’s vision run smoothly. I was very good at it. I was also quietly disappearing. It took a pain in my back — literally, a physical ache in the middle of my body — to finally make me stop and ask: what is this actually about? Turns out, it was about my heart. Living 4.Love is not a feeling. It’s a practice. It’s a daily commitment to stop betraying yourself for applause, approval, or someone else’s expectations. It’s choosing alignment even when it’s inconvenient. Trusting your spirit more than some strategy. Speaking your truth even when your voice shakes. It is not always easy, but it is always worth it. I am still learning. Still stretching. Still choosing, every single day. That’s what I want this space to be — for you and for me. A place to do that work together, in the trenches, without pretending it’s prettier than it is. Episode 1 is live. In this first episode, I share the moment I stopped being the sidekick in my own story — what it cost me, what cracked me open, and what I know now that I wish I’d understood sooner. If you’ve ever felt like you were moving through life on autopilot, showing up for everything and everyone but yourself, this one’s for you. 🎧 Listen to Episode 1: You Are the Soul of Your Story And if this resonates — come closer. The Living 4.Love community is where we go deeper. It’s where the real conversations happen — about alignment, healing, sovereign self-love, and what it means to build a life that actually feels like yours. You belong here. Especially if you’re still becoming. With Love, Dr. Makeba 🌻 You are not the sidekick. You are the soul of the story.
