Simpleman Distillery opening soon in Cumming, Georgia

Today on the Living in Forsyth Podcast, we’re talking withJustin Douglas, founder of Simple Man Distillery, which is preparing to open soon at the Cumming City Center, in Cumming, Georgia. Justin makes spirits with Georgia-grown ingredients, but the story goes well beyond what’s in the bottle: it’s about the farmers who grow those ingredients, the work it takes to turn a crop into a spirit, and what Justin hopes to bring to the Forsyth County and North Georgia community. Justing set out to simplify his life and created Simpleman Distillery featuring the growers and farmers of Georgia. What a unique business concept. In this episode you'll learn: Where do things stand with the opening? What still needs to happen, and how can local residents follow along for an official date? Justin takes us back to the beginning. What made you want to create a distillery centered on Georgia-grown ingredients rather than take a more conventional route? The name Simple Man reflects a decision about the kind of life and business you wanted to build. What changed your priorities, and how does that choice still guide you? The Dickey family was the first farm to take a chance on you. What do you remember about meeting them, and what did that first partnership make possible? You’ve said your peach vodka is made from peaches, not merely flavored with them. For someone who’s never tasted it, what’s the difference—in how you make it and in the glass? “Farm-to-glass” sounds appealing, but you’ve described the work of getting fresh fruit to the still before it spoils. What’s a day behind the scenes that would surprise customers? You want the farmer to be visible, not hidden behind the bottle. When someone visits the new location, how will they learn whose crops went into what they’re tasting? You spent years making spirits without a production home of your own. What has been the toughest part of getting to this Cumming City Center chapter, and what will having this space change for you? Imagine a Forsyth resident brings a friend to Simple Man for the first time. What do you hope they experience—and what do you hope they leave knowing about the people who grow Georgia’s food? Thank you for listening! Live, Eat, Play in FoCo and North Georgia!

Happy Mother's Day to FoCo Moms from LivinginForsyth.com

Mother’s Day in Forsyth County isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a glimpse into what makes this community so special. From early-morning practices and late-night homework help to cheering in the stands and leading in our schools, moms are the steady heartbeat behind so much of the life we love here. Long before it became a national holiday, Mother’s Day began as a simple “thank you” to women quietly serving and strengthening their communities. That spirit is alive and well in Forsyth—through moms, grandmothers, bonus moms, foster moms, adoptive moms, stepmoms, and so many women who show up like family every single day. This weekend, we invite you to: Slow down for an unhurried coffee or brunch at a local spot Take a family walk on the Greenway or enjoy a park day together Reach out to a mom who might be having a hard year and remind her she’s not alone To every mother and mother figure in Forsyth County: thank you. You make our homes warmer, our neighborhoods closer, and our community stronger. We’re honored to celebrate you not just on Mother’s Day, but all year long. Happy Mother’s Day. Serving More than BBQ - Serving Purpose in the Heart of Cumming

In the heart of Cumming Georgia one local restaurant is redefining what it means to go out for a meal. Feed the Well has quickly become known not only for its award winning biscuits and slow smoked BBQ, but for something deeper. Every meal served supports The Well, a local ministry that has been impacting lives across the community since 2021. The Well (thewellconnection.org) was born from a vision placed on founder Tonya Cohen’s heart. What began as a step of faith has grown into a place where thousands of men, women, and children have experienced community, encouragement, and transformation. Feed the Well (feedthewell.com)was created as an extension of that mission. A place where people can gather, share a meal, and be part of something meaningful. By morning, the restaurant serves Southern breakfast favorites, including its well loved biscuits and fresh coffee through a convenient drive through. By lunch and dinner, the focus shifts to handcrafted BBQ, with meats smoked on site and paired with scratch made sides and house sauces. The recent addition of a full smokehouse has brought new energy and excitement, drawing in both first time guests and returning regulars. But what keeps people coming back is not just the food. It is the atmosphere. Guests often describe it as welcoming, genuine, and different from anywhere else. A place where they feel known, not just served. As one participant shared, “The Well has changed my life. The welcoming love and acceptance I experienced from the first day was something I had never known. My relationship with Jesus has grown in ways I never imagined.” In a fast-paced world, Feed the Well offers something simple but powerful. Real food, real community, and real purpose. And for many in Forsyth County, that is exactly what they have been looking for. The restaurant exists to provide “real food, real community, real purpose,” and all proceeds support The Well, a local Christian organization Tonya founded in 2021; Darrin turned a 25+ year BBQ passion into Feed The Well after the couple bought Fagan’s Biscuit Barn in 2024 and launched the smokehouse in February 2026.
