   Halloween: From Costumes to Conviction

Halloween: From Costumes to Conviction In this powerful and deeply personal episode of Living in the Spirit,  Apostle Sharyn explores the historical origins of Halloween, its journey from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain to modern American culture, and the spiritual questions Christians should prayerfully consider today. Historical discussions connect Halloween to ancient beliefs about spirits, harvest observances, and customs that later influenced modern celebrations. Apostle Sharyn also shares a candid testimony from her own life as a young mother who eagerly celebrated Halloween. From dressing her children in costumes to transforming her home into a haunted attraction complete with a witch costume, dry ice cauldron, spooky decorations, and frightening sound effects, she reflects on what once seemed like harmless fun. As a mature Christian woman, she looks back through the lens of spiritual discernment and asks a sobering question: "What spirit was I inviting into my home?" Drawing from her journey of prayer, sanctifying her home, anointing every room, and covering her household with the blood of Jesus Christ, Sharyn discusses the importance of spiritual atmosphere, the reality of spiritual warfare, and the believer's call to walk in the light of Christ. In this episode, we discuss: The origins of Halloween How Halloween came to America The spiritual themes behind the celebration Violence, fear, and occult symbolism The nature of sacrifice from a biblical perspective Should Christians celebrate Halloween? Personal testimony and spiritual growth Faith-filled alternatives for Christian families Living as children of light in a dark world Whether you currently celebrate Halloween, avoid it altogether, or are simply seeking biblical guidance, this episode invites you into an honest conversation about culture, conviction, and spiritual discernment. Key Scripture: "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." - Ephesians 5:8 Subscribe for more episodes of Living in the Spirit as we explore faith, discipleship, spiritual growth, justice, and everyday life led by the Holy Spirit. #LivingInTheSpirit #Halloween #ChristianPodcast #SpiritualDiscernment #FaithAndCulture #ChristianLiving #SpiritualWarfare #JesusChrist #ChristianFaith #HolySpirit #BiblicalTruth #KingdomLiving

Justice at the Table: Poverty, Hunger and Climate Justice

Justice at the Table: Poverty, Hunger & Climate Justice | Living in the Spirit Podcast In this episode of Living in the Spirit, host Sharyn Cosby reflects on the privilege of presenting and serving as moderator for the workshop "Justice at the Table: Poverty, Hunger & Climate Justice" at the 2026 Hunger Free Oklahoma Hungry for Action Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joined by Joy Ferrin, Chief Community Impact Officer for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, and Dr. F. Bailey Norwood, Agricultural Economist at Oklahoma State University, this important conversation explored the growing connections between food insecurity, economic hardship, climate impacts, and the policies that shape the lives of Oklahoma families. Key topics discussed include: The intersection of hunger, poverty, and climate justice Why food insecurity in Oklahoma continues to rise The impact of decreasing SNAP benefits and rising food costs The reality of stagnant wages amid increasing grocery prices Why "good programming cannot counteract bad policy" Climate challenges facing agriculture and food production How farmers are adapting to changing environmental conditions The limits of market systems in addressing justice and human need The role of communities, faith organizations, and local leadership in building a hunger-free future This episode challenges listeners to think beyond charity alone and consider how justice, policy, economics, and faith intersect in the fight against hunger. Most importantly, it offers a message of hope. While the challenges are real, our hope is not in governments, markets, or institutions alone. Our hope is in a faithful God who calls us to love our neighbors, pursue justice, and work together for the flourishing of all people. "Markets don't have a heart. Markets don't care about justice. It will require people with a heart and people who care about justice." "SNAP benefits decreased while the cost of food increased." Join us as we explore what it means to create a place for everyone at the table. #hungeraction2026 #oklahomafamilyempowerment #inthespirit
