Welcome to LOL My Praxis! The timely, interdisciplinary, and entirely un-REFable academic/comedy podcast! Striving for FIVE star, world-leading excellence in terms of originality, significance, rigour, and sarcasm. *****
The premise is simple: asking stupid questions to smart people. Each episode the highly distracted duo, Dr Alexandra Campbell and Dr Louise Creechan, attempt to understand the unapologetically niche research of our esteemed guests and make some sort of sense along the way.
So, buckle up and brace for IMPACT!
Episode Notes
In this week's (much delayed) episode we chat with Dr Sean O'Brien and Dr Madeline Lane-McKinley about their upcoming book: The Return of the 90s: A Cultural History of the Present and ask - did we ever really leave? We discuss the ontological correlation between the Spice Girls and 9/11, question what Francis Fukuyama would think of Cher, consider the surprising indexical correlates of beanie babies and the long economic downturn, and get into 90s feminist theory by way of the American Girl Doll and the erotic thriller. We ask a series of questions about our favourite figures of the 90s and learn that North Americans have a very different archive of this iconic shiny, grungy decade. We close with a debate on periodicity and discuss the various 'crashes' that define the decade: the burst of the dot.com (http://dot.com) bubble, hijacked planes, Diana's car crash and the death of Aaliyah.

Ep.3 –Serving Syphillis
Episode Notes
This week we're speaking with Dr Lloyd Meadhbh Houston, a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Cambridge, Trinity College.
In this episode we chat with Lloyd about the sordid relationships between sectarianism and sexuality, find out what the most Irish STD is, and consider whether Irish Modernism was the original edging movement. We also consider the relationship between trans egg theory and autism, ask 'how might one fuck autistically?', and trace the connections between capitalist exhaustion and the contemporary top crisis.
Take a deep, syphilitic breath and dive with us into the auto-ethnographic splash zone.

Ep.2 –Big Wind Shill
Episode Notes
This week we're speaking with Praxis Enemy No. 1, Dr Marianna Dudley, senior lecturer in Environmental Humanities at the University of Bristol and ‘certified wet weirdo’. We first spoke with Marianna back in 2022 before the untimely, unplanned hiatus of the pod. The episode never aired. COINCIDENCE?? We think not. We invited her back to talk about her book, Electric Wind: An Energy History of Modern Britain, which she has now published all thanks to us! In this episode we ask: can we think of Mary Poppins and her magical umbrella as an early renewable energy icon? Why is solar energy sexier than wind power? What exactly makes a river alive and why don't we care what Robert Macfarlane thinks? We also discuss how the industrial imaginary of BIG WIND™ is muscling in on Britain's favourite past time - complaining proudly about our shit weather.
You can buy Marianna's fabulous book here: https://manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526182968/ (https://manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526182968/)
