It’s Not a Phase: Reacting to the Top 200 Emo Albums List
What’s the best emo album of all time? Is it the same as your favorite? And does a revival-era record belong at No. 1 over the genre’s founding classics?
Kiel Hauck and Nadia Alves dig into the Top 200 Emo Albums of All Time list recently published by Emo Kids Anonymous, which drew on ballots from writers, label folks and musicians. They react to The Hotelier’s Home, Like Noplace Is There taking the top spot over Clarity and Something to Write Home About. They celebrate seeing Further Seems Forever’s The Moon Is Down and Mayday Parade’s A Lesson in Romantics ranked higher than expected, and puzzle over how low Paramore landed. They also argue about what counts as emo, from Fall Out Boy and Under Oath to Pierce the Veil and Death Cab for Cutie.
Then come the snubs: Saosin, Copeland, The Academy Is…, Balance and Composure, Emery and Sweet Pill. Kiel and Nadia also talk about recency bias, the list’s lack of women, and which album you should listen to this week. Plus, check out Kiel and Nadia’s own top 10 emo albums lists at itsalldead.com.

Rock Girl Summer Concert Series ft. Flyleaf, Evanescence, Spiritbox & More
It's been a summer of shows! Kiel Hauck is joined by Nadia Alves to break down a run of unforgettable concerts, starting with Flyleaf's 20th anniversary tour for their self-titled album. Nadia caught a chaotic night in Boston (mic issues, actual crowd fights, and a setlist that leaned surprisingly hard on New Horizons), while Kiel heads out to see them in Indianapolis the very next night. The two dig into their long history with the band, Lacey Sturm's legacy, and what it meant to grow up on "girl power rock."
From there, Kiel recaps an incredible night with Evanescence and Spiritbox, breaking down what it's like watching Spiritbox win over an amphitheater crowd (RIP to everyone who lost it for "Circle With Me" and "Holy Roller"). They also tease more shows on the way, including Hayley Williams this September.
Then it's on to new music: Kiel runs through the albums that have defined his summer, including MUNA's Dancing on the Wall, Static Dress's screamo throwback, Olivia Rodrigo's new record, and Bring Me the Horizon's re-recorded Count Your Blessings. Nadia gives an update on her 1001 Albums Challenge — seven Bob Dylan albums down, a new Doves obsession, and a hard-earned five stars for the Black Keys' Brothers — before the two debate who really deserves the crown for Song of the Summer.
Plus, a look ahead at new music on the way from Mayday Parade, Phoebe Bridgers, Carly Rae Jepsen, Stand Atlantic, and Emery. Take a listen!
