   Ep389 Patience Required!

Hibs unravel again, but is the real problem deeper than the new manager?A brutal opening day under Reedijk brings instant panic from supporters, but this episode asks the bigger question: is one match really enough to judge a team that still looks built on shaky recruitment, mixed messages, and years of bad habits? Matty and Colin dig into the tactical confusion, the furious fan reaction, and the moments that hinted at something better before it all fell apart. They break down the unexpected starting XI, why the shape looked more like a 4-1-4-1 than the reported 4-2-3-1, and how that affected the balance of the team. You’ll hear why Josh Mulligan’s missed chance, too many hesitant passes, and repeated wrong decisions in the final third became the story of the day, even before Dundee United exposed the gaps and forced Hibs back into old patterns. We also get into the red card, the debate around the referee’s advantage call, and whether the dismissal was harsh, inevitable, or simply the result of another moment of poor game management. Along the way, they tackle the wider issues that keep resurfacing - recruitment, positional discipline, lack of cutting edge, and the frustration of watching a squad that still doesn’t look like a team.Reedijk’s post-match honesty, the role of his coaching staff, and the expectations around how quickly change can actually happen all come under the microscope too. If you’re trying to make sense of the chaos, separate the overreaction from the genuine concerns, and figure out whether there are real signs of progress hiding inside a disappointing defeat, this one is for you.Perfect for Hibs fans who want the straight-talking breakdown of what went wrong, what might be fixable, and why patience may be the hardest ask of all. The 4 O'Clock Hibs Show 9th October

Reedijk first game, a fresh Hibs shape, and a preview that is pure educated guesswork in the best possible way. Matty and Colin W break down what Hibs might look like on Saturday, where the new manager could surprise everyone, and why this match is less about instant answers and more about the first clues. With Dundee United waiting and the buzz already building, the pair compare possible lineups, debate 4-2-3-1 versus a back three, and weigh up who is fit, who is likely to start, and who may be better used off the bench. They also get into what a first-game opposition plan looks like, why overhyping a new era can backfire, and what really matters more here - the result or the performance. You’ll discover:Why this is “finger in the air” team selection, not certaintyThe logic behind starting Sallinger, Passlack, Kerr, Ivezic and IredaleWhether Mulligan and Chaiwa can finally be the midfield base Hibs needWhere Matondo, Elding, Cadden, Boyle, Lowe and Klidje might fit into the attackWhy Reedijk’s first big clue may be who he trusts quickest in trainingThe conversation also touches on the bigger picture behind Hibs recruitment, the role of the coaching staff, and why fans may need patience before expecting a fully finished side. Along the way, Matty and Colin react to live listener comments, challenge the idea that this is a “must-win,” and explain why a steady start may tell us more than a dramatic one.If you want a proper feel for the mood before kickoff, this is essential listening - especially if you like your football chat honest, lively, and just a little bit improvised. The episode closes with a score prediction and plenty left to be decided on the pitch. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

   Phone In 8th October

Rabbi Matondo’s arrival, a brand-new coaching setup, and a fresh manager trying to stamp an identity on Hibs - this episode is all about what changes first, and whether Saturday can deliver the first real sign of a new era. Matty is joined by Jack, Steven B, Ian Mackay, and HibeefanIain for a proper deep-dive into the club’s latest moves, from Matondo’s pace and threat out wide to the appointment of Brian McLaughlin, Scott Thompson, and Boozy in the backroom team. Is this smart recruitment, or another example of Hibs doing things the hard way? The panel doesn’t hold back. You’ll hear strong views on: whether Matondo is the winger Hibs have been crying out for why the new coaching appointments have raised eyebrows how much Scottish football experience matters under Marink Reedijk why Boozy’s individual development role could be a huge deal for player growth who should start on Saturday, and what a good result really looks like We also get into the bigger questions around identity, intensity, and whether Hibs can finally move away from the slow, passive style that’s frustrated supporters for months. The discussion turns to players who might benefit most from a fresh start, including Josh Mulligan, Chaiwa, Thibaut Klidje, and the left-side battle between Nicky Cadden, Adam Mayor, and Matondo. And because no Hibs phone-in is complete without a bit of nostalgia, the panel goes full wing-obsessed - with classic names, favourite wide men, and the eternal debate over whether wingers still matter. If you want insight, opinion, and a genuine sense of optimism about what comes next, this is essential listening before the Dundee United clash. Hosted on Acast.
