Imagine rejecting the Gospel one day and dying the next. That sobering reality opens up one of the most important spiritual distinctions believers face today: the difference between knowing about God and genuinely knowing Him.
What does it actually mean to know God, not just facts about Him?
Surprisingly, even secular scientists increasingly acknowledge a creator and a beginning, pointing to how God reveals Himself through creation and common grace available to all humanity. Yet Larry makes clear that recognizing God's existence is nowhere near the same as knowing Him personally. Matthew 11:27 and John 6:44 both ground this distinction in Scripture, reminding us that salvation requires God's active drawing of individuals to Himself.
Larry draws a compelling parallel from his own courtship with his wife, where knowing facts about her through letters was genuinely different from truly knowing her face to face. Factual knowledge and relational knowledge are two completely different things, separated by time, presence, and genuine engagement.
He also warns against spiritual complacency, which one professor memorably called "a grave with both ends knocked out," noting that repetitive, mechanical faith routines can slowly kill spiritual vitality.
