Welcome to M-Ash Potatoes! Just a couple of white ass potatoes trying to unlearn some harmful shit.
*Long-time friendship, antiracism, current events, existential dread and hot celeb topics*
We are two white women expressing our personal opinions on race and how toxic and pervasive whiteness can be and has been to us. We recognize that majority of lessons about whiteness we have learned have been from the emotional labor of people of color. Racism is a white person problem and we need white people to do the work. We’re looking to grow and hope to get some more white people on board, too!
Heyyy Potaytays! Should start off by clarifying that we recorded this episode over a month ago, so if it seems like we're avoiding current issues...well, we likely are in real life, but it was not intentional for the podcast.
After a couple personal updates, we cover some unsurprising yet still appalling instances of white fragility going on around the U.S., we go IN on Sean Penn (he still sucks ass big time), and we beg white women for accountability. Then we do a Pen15-inspired throwback to our middle school origin story, our first impressions of each other and other funny stuff that went on before we became real-deal BFFLs.
Finally, we are back in action with calls-to-action! Bitch McConnell and his little demons are still working their dumb asses off to take away voting rights and access, so support Black Voters Matter however you can! https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/

Are you ok? M-Ash Potatoes is back!!!
Heyyyy Potato Heads, wtf is up?? We have been busy (read: trapped in the nothingness that is life on this earth) but we are back! And might I say? Better than ever? You decide by listening to our first drop of season 2 of M-Ash Potatoes!!!
In this shorty but cutey, we catch you up on our lives (we are ok, ok?!), pay tribute to the beloved Betty White, discuss some of the shows we've been watching, and Meredith asks a question/makes a deep, dark confession about cultural appropriation. Plus goats and 90's expressions, obvi.
We'll get back to our regular programming and actually plan the next episode before recording, but for now it is just so nice to be back! We missed you and can't wait to wade through the highs and lows of 2022 together.

Welcome back double epi! Pt 1: We know it was Charles
POTATO HEADS!!!! We are back from our (unplanned, unannounced) hiatus and we could not be more excited. This (also unplanned) double episode is honestly? SO good. We're so happy to be back that our Ketchup and Hot Potatoes segments take up the whole first hour. We don't want to take the attention away from the topic of anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S., so all of pt. 2 will be dedicated to that. In the meantime, make sure to open your ears, eyes, hearts, wallet and mouth to be sure you're doing everything you can to fight white supremacy.

Next stop: Appropriation station! Pt. 2
Welcome to part 2 of our dive into cultural appropriation! We awkwardly talk about things we did as younger potatoes that we definitely had no right to be doing and ask ourselves the question: what can we as white people do to make sure we're appreciating other cultures rather than appropriating them? Hint: it's a never ending process of reflection and self-education.
Join us on the journey and tell us your own stories of unlearning appropriation! On Instagram @mashpotatoespod or email mashpotatoespod@gmail.com

Next stop: Appropriation station! Pt. 1
What's up, Potato Heads? Back in the simpler times of 2021, before a mob of violent white supremacists took over the capitol, we had so much to say about cultural appropriation that we made two episodes out of it. In pt. 1, we Ketchup by talking about Bridgerton and then intro our appropriation discussion by dissecting whatever the fuck Hillary Baldwin was thinking when she tried to pull one over on the world and tell us all she's a Spanish immigrant. Next week we get into everyday cultural appropriation and how we can all keep working on appreciating and admiring rather than columbusing* other cultures.
*Acting like shit belongs to you simply because you're white
Our Off the Couch Potatoes segment will be part of next week's episode, but in the meantime, be sure to recognize and thank Stacey Abrams, Deborah Scott, Felicia Davis, Keisha Lance Bottoms, and all the other Black women who turned Georgia blue by giving suppressed citizens the chance to vote.

Happiest Season: Two potatoes stuck in the Christmas vortex
HO HO HO, Potato heads! This episode turned into a deep dive of the queer Christmas rom-com, Happiest Season, because some things are just beyond our control (spoilers between 17:42-46:00 (lol that's a lot of minutes)). Also, Ashley thinks her dog has pica, Meredith is sleepy, and neither one of them can stop using Christmas movies as escapism.

Tis the damn season: Bad Christmas movie extravaganza!
Welcome back, Potato Heads! Anyone else been emotionally sheltering in place the past few weeks? We try to make sense of the dumb ass news, Ashley has ideas for rebranding Thanksgiving she should honestly bring to Biden/Harris and most importantly, we talk about our favorite escape: horrible, no quality made for TV/streaming Christmas movies! Ho ho ho, bitch!
We can still flip the senate in the Georgia run-off! Donate to https://fairfight.com/

Bye, bitch! Thanking everyone that saved the USA
We're pumped the country said "no" to fascism in 2020, and we dedicated this episode to talking about all the people that made it happen. Spoiler alert: it wasn't white people. We sift through relief, anxiety and trauma (fun!), give our personal accounts of watching the Harris and Biden acceptance speeches, and end with a part 2 from last week's "Tater Tots in Spain."
Take action: send thank-yous!

Election survival: The only way out is through
What else can we even discuss besides how to survive the next few days until the election? You’d be surprised...besides how to cope until Nov 3rd, we talk new hobbies, how to help the #endsars movement in Nigeria and the messed up situation at Vogue magazine. Then we tell an epic tale of us eating potatoes and drinking wine throughout Spain.

Excuse me, I’m speaking: The voting episode
Welcome back, Potato Heads! Today we dish on all things voting: historical and current voter suppression, the racist origins of the electoral college, and what we all have to do to make the most out of our voting power. But first, we compare our gross stories of survival in the outdoors and unpack the last couple weeks of nightmare cuckoo bananas political news. Also, do not miss this week’s Tater Tot Time where we fondly reminisce about our failed attempts at making new friends.
The next few weeks are crucial for action!

RBG: Ruth Badass Ginsburg
Welcome back, taters! We start off the episode with a much needed check in (0:00-8:00). Then we talk about Breonna Taylor and the complete failure all around in holding her murderers accountable (8:00-14:11). We grieve RBG by talking first about her life (14:18-44:37) then about how we can strive to be a tiny bit like her by working together to flip the damn senate (44:38-57:49). There’s also a new segment, too much throat clearing, and a definitely very charming story about us in Boston.

Allyship: Let’s get to work
Whew! It was hard to fit everything into an hour this week...so we didn’t, but we think you’ll find it worth the time! There was so much to cover, from the attempted murder of Jacob Blake and brutal killings of Deon Kay and Daniel Prude, to the stark contrast of white teen gunman Kyle Rittenhouse being peacefully apprehended and even praised...wtf?? We also get into a bunch of different ways we can stand up against racist systems and how to make sure we’re doing it for the right (not white) reasons.
