What does it look like to be a Christian in the modern world?
That's the question I'm trying to answer on Faith for Real.
The Bible was written thousands of years ago, and we live in a world the people in it wouldn't recognize. But we're still supposed to live by it. And that gets really interesting when you get down into the normal decisions we make every day, because most of them don't have a clear "the Bible says do this" answer.
So I want to dig into those questions.
What does Scripture say? What principles apply here? What have we accepted as normal without thinking much about it? What are we free to enjoy? What's wise?
What isn't? And how do we know the difference?
That's what we're working through on Faith for Real.
Jonah survives the storm and the fish, but his story still has a difficult conversation ahead of him. In this episode of Faith for Real, Katrina Gambill follows the complete story of Jonah, including his flight, the sailors’ response, his rescue, Nineveh’s repentance, and the plant outside the city. Jonah’s own explanation comes when the story reaches chapter four. It’s a story about receiving mercy and struggling when someone else receives it, too. We also keep an important distinction clear...

When They Stop Asking: Raising Kids Who Can Follow God Without You
At some point, our kids stop asking us first. They start making plans, forming opinions, wanting things, and taking steps before we even know what’s happening. And suddenly parenting starts to feel different. We’re still responsible for guiding them, but we also know we’re not supposed to make every decision for them forever. So what are Christian parents actually trying to build while our kids are still at home? In this episode of Faith for Real, I’m telling the story of how my 13-year-ol...

I Went Further Down a Paul Rabbit Hole. Here's What I Found.
Paul is one of the most important people in the New Testament, but before he became the apostle we know, he was Saul of Tarsus—a man actively persecuting the earliest Christians. In Part 1, we’re going back to the beginning and following Paul’s story chronologically: his background, his education, his persecution of Christians, the road to Damascus, and the first years after his conversion. This is Paul’s story with the backstory—the historical and biblical context that helps all those famili...

Who Was Paul? The Story of Christianity's Most Famous Apostle
Most of us know Paul. He wrote a huge chunk of the New Testament, went on missionary journeys, planted churches… we know Paul. But I realized pretty quickly while researching this episode that I knew almost nothing about Saul. So for Part One, we’re going all the way back. Where was he born? How was he both Jewish AND a Roman citizen? What did it mean that he was a Pharisee? And how does this guy go from being so against Christianity that he’s actively persecuting Christians to meeting Jesus ...

Why I Stopped Listening to True Crime as a Christian
I used to listen to true crime constantly—Crime Junkie, documentaries, unsolved cases, murder trials, all of it. Then one day I didn't want to anymore. But stopping made me wonder: should Christians listen to true crime at all? In this episode of Faith for Real, I'm looking at true crime and Christianity through the questions that changed how I consume it. We talk about the Netflix Jeffrey Dahmer series and Rita Isbell, the University of Idaho murders and Rebecca Scofield, the Lindsay Clancy ...

Why We're Never Satisfied With What We Have
I can have a closet full of clothes and still think I need clothes. I can have cabinets full of kitchen appliances and find another one that's supposed to make dinner easier. I can be perfectly happy with what I own, right up until I see the better version. Why doesn't having enough stop us from wanting more? I started with that question and ended up somewhere I didn't expect. First I looked at planned obsolescence, Keeping Up with the Joneses, and the psychology of social comparison. Compani...

Is My Repentance Real?
Faith For Real — Season 2, Episode 1: True Repentance vs. Counterfeit Repentance If you've ever confessed the same sin to God over and over and wondered whether your repentance is genuine, this episode is for you. We study five men in Scripture — Pharaoh, Saul, Judas, David, and Peter — who each got confronted with their own sin and responded in completely different ways. Four of them said the same words: "I have sinned." Only two of them actually repented. This episode walks through what sep...

Self-Care as Stewardship: Biblical Rest for the Exhausted Christian Mom
Self-care is not always candles, quiet mornings, or a clean calendar. Sometimes it is eating before you keep going, sleeping before you collapse, asking for help, moving your body because it needs strength, or telling the truth about your limits before your family has to live with the version of you that is left. In this episode, Katrina talks about grief, chronic illness, motherhood, POTS, exhaustion, and learning that caring for the body God gave her was not extra. It was stewardship. Throu...

The Nod: Letting Go of Control in Marriage, Motherhood, and Stepparenting
In this episode of Made For This, Katrina shares the story behind “The Nod” — a small moment between her husband, Keaton, and her son, Amileo, that revealed something God had been building in their family for years. Through marriage, motherhood, co-parenting, and learning to let go of control, Katrina reflects on what it means to make room for your husband to lead without feeling like you’re disappearing as a mom. This episode explores the tension many Christian wives and mothers feel when th...

When You Can’t Keep Going Like This
You've been sneaking into the bathroom just to stand there, not crying, not praying, just trying to get thirty seconds where nobody says your name. That's not a spiritual failure. That's a body that has nothing left. You might be carrying genuinely real things. Grief. A body that isn't cooperating. A husband who needs your support, kids who need your presence, and a calendar that keeps moving even when you don't have anything left to bring to it. And somewhere in the middle of it all, you dec...

When Your Family Is New To Faith
What do you do when your child asks a faith question you don’t know how to answer? In this episode of Made For This, I’m sharing the story of a question my seven-year-old asked me on the way to school: “What if we don’t know each other in heaven?” What started as honest curiosity from the backseat became something deeper for me — a moment that exposed my own insecurity as a newer believer, a mother still learning, and a woman who sometimes wonders if she’s qualified to guide her kids spiritua...

When You Both Love God, But Your Faith Feels Separate
Get The Distance Reset You love your husband, you're both in church on Sunday, you both believe — and your faith still feels like it lives in a separate room from your marriage. This episode is for that specific distance. It's not a crisis. It doesn't even look like a problem from the outside. But you've stopped bringing your faith into conversation because nothing happens when you do, and somewhere along the way you started wondering if this is just how it is. That quiet resignation is what ...

Why Do Other Women Seem More Spiritually Steady
Get The Shame Reset You’ve sat in a room full of women who speak Scripture like a first language, quietly written down their answers because you didn’t have your own, and left feeling like there’s a gap between where they are and where you are that might just be permanent. This episode is for that feeling. What shame does to your faith isn’t dramatic. It just tells you to wait. Don’t come until you’re more consistent. Don’t ask the question. Don’t show back up until you can show up better. T...

When the Morning Falls Apart
Get your companion workbook! You managed the kids and the questions before anyone had eaten breakfast — and somewhere in all of it, your own time with God got bumped again. This episode is for that morning. There's a particular kind of tired that isn't about your schedule. It's the weight of believing God feels farther away the louder your life gets — that his presence requires conditions your mornings rarely give you. That if you couldn't get quiet before the chaos started, you've already lo...
