Season 2 EPS 7 : Own Your Story: The Power of Branding & Visibility with Dr. Brandi Sims
Simply Magnificent: Black & Bold with Court
What happens when you know your worth, but the workplace doesn't always recognize it?
What happens when you are educated, experienced, talented, and still find yourself questioning whether you are being paid what you're worth?
And what happens when you decide that maybe it's time to create your own table instead of waiting for someone else to give you a seat?
Those are some of the real conversations I had with Dr. Brandi Sims on the latest episode of Simply Magnificent: Black & Bold with Court.
️ This Conversation Goes Beyond Branding
Dr. Brandi Sims and I talked about what it means to be a Black woman in the workforce and the experiences that can come with being educated, ambitious, and determined to build a successful career.
We talked about the reality of having degrees, experience, and skills—but sometimes still not being compensated at the level we know we deserve.
And that conversation led us to something even bigger:
What if we stop waiting for permission?
For some women, entrepreneurship becomes a way to take control of their vision, create opportunities, and build something of their own.
Dr. Sims shared insight into her own entrepreneurial journey and what it looks like to build a company while creating opportunities for other people along the way.
Creating Opportunities for Others
One of the things I loved about this conversation was learning more about the opportunities connected to Dr. Sims' company.
We talked about job opportunities and scholarships that can help people move forward in their careers and education.
Because success isn't just about building something for yourself.
It's also about asking:
"How can I open the door for somebody else?"
Education can change someone's life.
A job opportunity can change someone's life.
A scholarship can change someone's life.
And when people who have built their own success create opportunities for others, that impact can continue far beyond one person.
Education Is Powerful—But Know Your Value
We also talked about being educated and what happens when your education and experience don't always translate into the compensation or opportunities you expected.
A degree is an accomplishment.
Experience is an accomplishment.
Professional knowledge is an accomplishment.
But sometimes, you have to take a step back and recognize:
"I bring value to the table."
Knowing your value doesn't mean that every opportunity will recognize it.
It means you have to be intentional about where you invest your time, talent, education, and energy.
And Then There Is God...
And gurl, we had to talk about God.
Because sometimes the doors that close don't make sense until you see where God is taking you next.
Sometimes that job doesn't work out.
Sometimes the opportunity you wanted doesn't happen.
Sometimes you find yourself asking, "God, why am I going through this?"
But there are moments when you realize that the closed door wasn't the end of your story.
It was simply redirection.
And one thing we know:
God doesn't play about us.
He can take the experience you thought was going to break you and use it to prepare you for something you never imagined.
Black Women. Our Stories. Our Worth.
This episode is about more than careers.
It's about identity, resilience, education, entrepreneurship, opportunity, faith, and knowing your worth.
It's about recognizing that you can be highly educated and still have to advocate for yourself.
You can work for someone else and dream about building something of your own.
You can succeed and still reach back to help someone else succeed.
And you can trust God while you're figuring out what comes next.
